Hi guys,

Im hoping someone can help me i have a 2003 M3 and today it decided while over taking to not select a gear the numbers flashed and the transmission light came on i coasted to a holt and switched it off and waited 30sec/1 minute and it started fine and drove off? ( Very embaressing as the car i over took drove past me again!)
I`ve never had problems the car is in great condition and i service routinly but i drive it on occasions as it was designed.
Ive read about detent springs and this would make sense as it was underload at the time but im new to these set ups and would like someone to confirm my suspitions please help

Many thanks
James

Opened your bonnet recently? Try opening and reclosing it - sounds like the bonnet sensor thinks the bonnet is open.

This happened to me on my drive home after picking the car up because I hadn't closed the bonnet properly - not happened since in 2 years!

Hi pal, if it happens again try replacing the salmon relay.

You can get a new one from a dealer for around £5-8 and they a reasonably common fault on SMG cars.
