Well I thought I'd share my frustration here! I now have to get back into the company car scheme! SO I have to sell the M5 and wait for it.... get into a new 5 series diesel frown I'm sure it is going to be quite a painfl experience! Anyone had to make a similar move? I test drove the 530d and the salesmen was telling me how wonderful it was.... couldn;t help but tell him it was actually ste and I didn;t really want one!

Can understand your pain =P Nice photos on the ad mate, and best of luck with the sale. Let us know how you get on with the 530D tho, you never know you may actually like it in time. I'm sure someone will come along and recommend you re-map it haha. I suppose the increased mpg may make you slightly happier? Although your not listening to that gorgeous V10 no more....

I actually have a fuel card for the M5, so don't even care about MPG! To be fair I was impressed with the 530d but it isn;t going to compare to the M5! Already thought about the remap... but even if gets to me 250bhp it's still going to feel slow! Thanks for the kind words, will update progress as it happens.

Lovely car you have there mate.

Couldn't you push to a 535i/d ? Maybe a better compromise than a 530d

Mark,

I feel your pain, what a nightmare!

The 530D is a good car, although I believe the previous one had better ride and steering feel.

It'll do fine for work business.....why not keep the M5, or get another, for personal use??

Nothing will replace a beast!!

+1

In time, you will appreciate some aspects of the 530D. It's a great cabin, comfortable and good on fuel. Relaxing.

It will be no M5 though when you want to hoon about a bit.

I am out of the scheme and take an allowance, but they are stopping that and forcing everyone into company cars frown

As for the fuel card.... BEST mod I've had for the beast hehe. Some people even blaming my fuel card for the reason the company is changing the policy!

Might be something in that?

That V10 is a thirsty lump, no?

I feel your pain. Our car rules are set to change too. Currently run an E39 M5 on a car allowance and 25p a mile. From next April this is to be cut to 16p a mile. They are trying to tell us that this is because of HMRC not allowing a rate of more than 16p but I smell a flat tailed ground squirrell there. If they stick to their guns I'll either have to get rid or take the company car option and live on bread and water so I can keep the 5 as a toy.

Have a look at this - I'm not an accountant but is seems to support your case?

Ahhh, I recall the happy days of running my modded B5 RS4 on a fuel card - with a 130 mile round trip commute :-) I did manage to average 19 mpg on the gridlocked M25 and slow M4 though!
