E46 M3 starting problem
Discussion
Hi
Not driven my M3 for a few months.
Went to start it, battery dead.
Fair enough, hasn't been used. Hooked it up to another car to jump start it, everything working as it should but the engine wouldn't even turn over, not even slowly and not even a click.
Is there some sort of immobiliser thing on it that needs sorting?
I had to crack on so took the other car away, took jump leads off etc, and I get a really loud beeping from the M3, in the engine bay somewhere. It sounded like the noise a lorry makes when it's reversing.
Any ideas?
Thanks

It's not a great idea jump starting an E46. A guy at work did this and blew a few control units, one of which was the LCM. I think it cost him something like £360 for the bits and pieces and to have the LCM programmed. The garage told him that the electrics are prone to power surges, and if the car you are jumping from doesn't have the most stable electrical supply from the Alternator, this can happen. If you can, use a power pack. That way you have regulated voltage. I doubt there is any immobiliser issue with your car, it's probably just that dead that the battery needs a good charge, which would take some time off another car's Alternator. Not driven my M3 for a few months.

The beeping is probably just the Alarm on battery back up. Mine used to do this. I work overseas, and regularly, my battery would be drained after a few weeks (3-4?). After starting though, all would be back to normal. I was told that there's that many electrical gizmos running in the background that it just draws from the battery. I ended up buying a battery optimizer/trickle charger, and it made all the difference.
