Why hasn't this sold?!
Discussion
Hi Everyone,
Kinda new to this forum but I have been browsing M3s for a while and came across this:
http://www.allvehicles.co.uk/car_info/10/Used_For_...
Spec seems okay, looks in lovely nick. The only thing that puts me off is that it seems to have been for sale for months?! Is this usual? If anyone could provide me with a little reassurance that would be excellent!
Thanks

M3's are not shifting at all currently, even with some vendors dropping prices hard.
It has the combined problem of hundreds available for sale, combined with very short ownership periods as the reality of the costs of running one force selling on quickly.
That particular one isn't overly desirable being silver with black leather, and it has micky mouse CSL's on which might put some off.
I should add, no widescreen navigation makes these cars even more difficult to sell. It's not the best navigation but can be upgraded to become highly useable. It makes the car much more desirable if it has the nav although, in some senses, it is pre-historic compared to modern day equivalents.

I think the seller is on PH, I remember seeing this car at Goodwood one breakfast club and commenting on here before. I noticed it because it has CS wheels and the US model clubsport badges on but the standard M3 steering wheel.
It looked pretty tidy in the flesh but as mentioned above E46 M3's just aren't selling, or to be more accurate some of the very high mileage/low cost ones are being sold as they've reached a different kind of buyer but at the higher end of the market they're going pretty slowly.

There's something odd about that car. It's had paint. Look at the bumpers and the sideskirts and how flat they look........
just been to see the car and i thought i'd clear this up just in case it put someone off, the paint is fine, it has had a front end drape done (bonnet, bumper and wings) but this was done by the dealer because of stone chips (no reason to doubt him) but other than that the paint is lovely.Big E 118 said:

I was hoping this is the case, I think it's too "average" to be honest, average miles, average price and average condition etc means it doens't really stand out. In the flesh though it is a lovely car and I'm definitely weighing it all up in my mind. Thanks you all your input everyone!!!Simon
If you're interested, it's the spec you want and have looked around a few others then go for it (after a bit of negotiation!). You're getting a lot of car for £12k.
There are a lot on the market for very reasonable money. It doesn't mean they're bad cars, just that a lot of people can't justify the running costs of a car like the M3 at the moment. It is a good time to buy.
Personally I would (and did) go for a CS as they have followed the regular M3 prices downward but you will get a car with much better steering feel.

I wanted a CS, but what stopped me was the steering wheel. Hate that suade wheel and no multi function. Shame but with the miles I was doing I preferred creature comforts. There are a lot on the market for very reasonable money. So you went for it then OP! Nice one. When do you pick it up?
Where are you based? I'm near Gatwick so if you fancy a hoon when you've got it then give me a shout.

Hoping to pick it up this weekend/early next week, it was a bit touch and go regarding selling my previous car but that went today without a hitch. I'm based near Guildford, I've been lurking around PH for a good long while but I've never really posted. Are there any organised meets that go on among the BMW section?
I'm not going to lie, the M3 will be the most powerful car I've ever owned and rear wheel drive is something I've not had for a while, so I may be taking it easy and not "pushing it" with driving the car hard!!!

I got a M3 a few months ago and I was a little bit scared for the first week but, once I got used to the car, I realised how amazing it was and is by far the best handling car I have ever had. Just be careful in the wet and you will be fine.

You'll find the M3's have grip to spare in the dry and you'd have to be pretty silly to bin it. In the wet though it's fairly easy to step the back out so certainly worth getting used to it first!
The thing to get used to is the bunnyhopping that the M3's tend to do with a cold engine, it can be sooo embarrassing when it catches you out!!

Haven't seen any BMW meets in Surrey/Sussex but I was thinking about seeing if we could set something up with the Munich Legends guys where we had a hoon then have a nose around the cars there. Will post up here if I sort something.

I picked up the car today, definitely taking it easy but had a few chances to give her a squirt, lovely car. You'll find the M3's have grip to spare in the dry and you'd have to be pretty silly to bin it.
