Having owned an e46 m3 both manual and SMG, I would love to get my hands on an M6. Owning one of the last N/A V10s is too much of an opportunity to let stroll on by.

Funds though are an issue and a couple of years saving are in order as I dont like the idea of finance.

But I have seen this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2109458.htm in the classifieds (I note its been there a while).

The lure is the price. But realistically how much would you have to chuck at this to get it roadworthy, or is it a case of just get saving, wait till the new one surfaces and pushes e64 values down?

Finally on a general note, what is the M6 like to live with day to day?

Many thanks in advance.

I'll put it out there, Neigh on 10-15k to get that back together and painted. I'd imagine holding out would be a better option, To live with I have no idea, But 15-20 mpg at best might hurt, And so far as I have read never buy one without warranty, Anything that can go wrong will be massive money, M5boards is a great site

Don't do it!

Save up and get a good one, with the full BMW warranty.

That V10 is truly stunning.....the fuel thing is something to consider, but you would not really be in the market for one of these if it was a big issue.

These cars are just brilliant.....go for it and enjoy it, as you'll soon be dead and long forgotten!

Hi mate,
From someone who bought a car from a main dealer & went back 13 times in 5 months....

Only buy a car sub 60,000 miles & get the warranty.... the costs on these cars are staggering if you get a bad one like i did!!!

P.s the reason for the 60K is the warranty doubles from then on.

Don't waste your money on the cat D, 'whole' M6's can be had for around £20k.

Awesome, I just bought one as a daily driver.

Fuel consumption is down to ya right foot, but that sound is bloody addictive, you can get 28mpg, if you want too.

its git a huge boot and is a great GT mainly suited to A & B road's.

This is true.
Could you buy that car at (say) £13,000, bring it back to England & repair it for £3,000, because it'll always be worth (at a minimum) 20% less than an equivelant unrecorded model.

Day to day? Honestly? You'd be better off in 95% of circumstances with an Alpina B5.

I know, I know...

The M6 is, afaic, a sporting GT; a furthering of the 928 ethos.

So, fast, flowing country environs and huge, expansive vistas.

It's a car in which to revel at colossal speeds and also the accompanying fanfare thereto.

Guiding it in the classical sense as defined by the impetus behind the original Lamborghini 350GT.

Hardly a unique reprising but crushingly effective, nonetheless.

I ran a VERY boring experiment about a year ago for M5board.com. Southampton to Manchester what was best MPG I could get. Set the cruise control to 64mph and the beast was happy in 7th gear along the motorway. Average mpg when at destination in Manchester..... 28.9mpg!

One seriously DULL trip though and an aboslute waste of a V10! My advice f**k the mpg, get the average mph up, much more fun wink
