I've heard doing the above will release that V8 roar, any recommendations on which specialist to take the car to have this done?

Somewhere in Hampshire or Leicestershire would be ideal, also an idea of the cost would be good too.

Thanks

I spent a lot of time looking into this and it is the cheapest way to make them 'noisier'.....however, without a box you lose some of the depth of tone if that makes sense. Hard to explain.

I know somewhere in Hertfordshire that would do it, but I just waited for a decent second hand tubi exhaust to come up for sale.......I think there's a supersprint currently for sale on ebay......

Hi
I have just had this done on my 2000 E39 M5

I hit a large stone in the road a week or so ago and i damaged one of the rear mufflers so i thought why not get this mod done instead of replacing the damged back box with a standard one.

Have to say the sound is amazing really brings a bigger smile to my face now

total cost was £200 including the tips below :

http://www.tailpipes.co.uk/retail/retail_detail_1....

these are 3.5" each tailpipes and fit very neatly in the bumper i believe these are the max size you can have on the E39.

very nice job done by a local company to me in south wales all in 2.5" stainless and removable if required although i doubt anybody would want to giving the looks and noise from the mod . i believe that there is supposed to be a slight loss of power from this mod but its minimal according to other forums i would say to anybody wishing to do this mod go for it you will not be dissapointed.

i will post up some pics as soon as i can

I'm in the process of booking my car in to have this done too, I'm using Custom Chrome in Nuneaton so not a million miles from Leicester. Graham the bloke i spoke to there, quoted me £250 all in for four straight pipes back from the centre silencer in stainless steel in the same staggered configuration as the standard pipes as i want to keep it looking neat and untouched. Also he said if i then wasn't happy with the sound he could stick 4 "less silenced back boxes" in and tailor the baffling to suit the sound i wanted. They have been going for years and have a good reputation. I'd make sure that the pipes are cut so that you could have the old back boxes or stock pipes put back in if you came to sell the car as not everybody likes things messed about with.

SOME PICS :

Also kept the original boxes (despite one being damaged) and been modded to be placed back on if required as said in last post can be put back to standard form if needed. Saying that the noise is so toxic that i doubt i would ever go back and suprisingly still quiet in the car at cruising speed 70 - 80 anything over 2500-3000 rpm really releases the V8 sound a mod i will never regret

Yes they are the largest i believe you can fit without any mods to the bumper they are 3.5" each outlet they also do a staggered version like the original style pipes but these are slightly wider in the 3.5" and would not fit in the bumper moulding but there is a 3" version available in both staggered and straight see below:

i am very happy so far with booth the looks and of course sound as soon a i get chance i will get a video posted up

After selling mine its the one thing I really miss (although the neighbours probably disagree, esp first thing in the morning).

For the money it is a brilliant upgrade.

Can anyone recommend a place that can do a good job of this near Heathrow/West London?
Ideally whilst-I-wait?

Top Gear Performance in St Albans will do it mate. They did an excellent job fitting my tubi exhausts whilst I waited (including fabricating a unique bit of pipework).
Give them a bell.

I've used styledynamixs in Hayes to do my E39, cost was £300 and I could wait whilst they worked;

The website is down at the moment, but here's some of their other work;

As for results, he's how mine now sounds;
