I'm in a bit of a pickle and need a new battery quickly, Kwikfit have them in stock for around half the price fitted as opposed to my local dealer who needs to order it in - anything I need to be aware of if using Kwikfit, I've read about re-registering the new battery with the car's computer but I assume Kwikfit would be aufait with this?

Secondly, this may be a very stupid question, but my car has the comfort access option and at the moment I'm having to use the physical key to unlock the vehicle, however when I open the door the alarm goes off until I put the key fob into the ignition, am I doing something wrong?

Seconded. Get the battery delivered next day from an online seller and fit it yourself. Two minute job!

Go to Halfords and buy a memory code storer. It's basically a device that plugs into your cigarette lighter and stores and saves all your cars codes (seats, times, mileage, radio settings etc).

Then go and buy a BOSCH battery from somewhere like Andrew Page/ Eurocar Parts, they have a 3-4 year warranty and will set you back around £100. I believe the number is 017.

The alarm problem is an immobiliser issue.

I don't think that will work - the E60's lighter socket is not powered when the ignition is off. And if you leave the ignition on I suspect the 9V battery in the typical code storer will be flat in a second or three.

In an E60 it's important that the battery is replaced with one of the same capacity or the car needs to "told" what the capacity it so that it's charged properly and that battery drain can be accurately measured.

Halfords and use a trade card if you can, massive discounts on Batteries by using one.
