I know this pops up quite a lot on here so please bear with me.
The time is fast approaching when my M3 goes back to its rightful owner and I am stumped as to what car I should 'buy' next. I have the option to buy but, as I am rarely in the country now, it makes more sense to have a car in Germany.
I have been and had a nose around a Porsche dealer and had a chat with them. I'm looking at the last of the 997s as I hope to pick up a good discount with the arrival of the new 991 but I'm not sure the hoped for discount would be enough and I am worried that a vanilla 997 would not really be a 'step up' from the M3. The only ones that really do anything for me are the GTs but two seats is a no go for a one car household at the moment.
I've been to the local Merc dealer to enquire about a C63 as there was a stupidly good deal being offered at the IAA last week but having gone through the numbers they came out about 300€ more per month than the deal offered even though I went through it with someone at the IAA! I really like the Merc and that engine sounds
but its an automatic but that sound..............
Today I decided to have a chat with someone at the local BMW dealer and they came out with a figure (within a few £s per month)that I am currently paying but this includes the competition pack and driver's pack (the salesman told me it is a total derestriction in Germany!). I'm trying to work out if staying with the same car, all be it in LHD with a few extras that were not available when I ordered my first car) is plain silly as there are other cars I would love to own. I do not, unfortunatly, have the space for an everyday car and a 'toy' so I just keep coming backl to the M3.
Its been the best car I have every owned, not difficult, and is comfortable when I want it to be but will also lap the 'ring ohne ende (handy as I'm an hour and a half away).
The only things that have come to bug me about my car is the gap between the tyres and the arches, the sound (although my car is getting louder as the milage increases), the limiter and I do sometimes look at the wheels and think 'do they suit the car?' All of these would be fixed with the 'new' M3 but I cannot help thinking there is something I am missing.
I have not had a test drive in a Porsche or a C63 yet as arranging them here is quite difficult for some reason and I do not want to waste anyones time but a decision needs to be made soon as the lead times for an AMG are 6 months if you want any Designo extras whereas the BMW is only 4 months for Individual.
In a word, help.
Cheers,
Pete

Interesting situation. Does hi light why the M3 has been so continuously successful. Where else do you go? If you were a cash outright buyer (not sensible IMHO on the cars you have listed) you would have a plethora of lightly used options ranging from the sublime (612 scaglietti) to the ridiculous (Mustang GT500). I think you're definitely on the right track with the C63.....you owe it to yourself to try something different to the BMW and the pork is just not for me unless its a GT.
I know that the cash price would buy a lot of metal. If could go that route then an R400 and RS4 estate would be a good combination if I had the room but I am looking at new cars at the moment and, as said, I just keep coming back to the M3 at this price point. I'll try and sort out an AMG test drive this week but it does seem very difficult in Germany. Thanks for the imput so far.
