1M.....production and delivery times
Discussion
I ordered mine on June 14th at Chandlers BMW in Sussex, and then took delivery last Friday.
I have to say I haven't stopped smiling since. It's everything I hoped for, but still running it in at the moment.
I even went to collect it from the dealers in my 1990 E30 M3 I've had since 1996 !!
You'll not be disappointed. It's a proper car. ENJOY WHEN YOU GET IT!!

Wow you ordered the day after me and have your car already?!?
Mine keeps getting put back further and further. Firstly I had a week 38 build, which then moved to week 39. I was told the car would be here at the dealers towards the end of September and that slipped to this week. I was told last week that it had slipped again to around the 17th October and yesterday told that it was now the end of October.
If it slips again into November then I will probably just cancel my order as I'm actually fed up of waiting now.

All sounds a bit random to me?
I ordrered 3rd June and was given a September estimated delivery then my dealer called me and said "Good news we have a delivery date for you....Mid November", i was like "How is that good news when i was told if i ordered when i did i would get a Sept delivery?" Tbh i have also got a bit fed up with numerous calls with numerous dates especially now when you find out that some lucky few ordered almost 2 weeks after you and have already taken delivery.
Sounds a bit like certain BMW dealers having a bit more pulling power than others, surely a first come first served basis should apply to new car orders? Oh well, such is life,im still looking forward to it ofc but after such a long wait now it is starting to feel a little bit of a chore.

I work for BMW, and have 2 1M orders myself. Just to clarify, the lead times for these have been a total anomaly to the usual process... dates have changed erratically many times and it was all changing round like crazy until about mid-July when all the Quota's were taken up and your orders were set in stone. This is when your orders would have gone from 0077 to 1100 (into the order queue, but definitely assigned to a slot)... orders then remain at 1100 for a few weeks (in the case of the 1M a few months).I ordrered 3rd June and was given a September estimated delivery then my dealer called me and said "Good news we have a delivery date for you....Mid November", i was like "How is that good news when i was told if i ordered when i did i would get a Sept delivery?" The 1M's are being manufactured in what's called controlled batch processing flow.. effectively, there are 4 batches - normal E82 production pauses momentarily and these chassis's pass through. I believe the penultimate batch begun in October, and then the last will start end of December.
So basically, don't let it out on your sales exec - I'm sure he/she's doing everything they can to get the car to you as soon as possible (we get paid on delivery not deal!)... and consider yourselves lucky to have secured one of these!
Thanks for the heads up
Its nice to know how the process works and therefore why some appear to be much quicker than others (just wish mine had been one of the faster ones!)
I would never take it out on the sales guy,hes been really great overall,he was just the bearer of the delivery date slippage,i just pulled his leg as a gentle reminder of the original estimated date, dont shoot the messenger and all that.

AOK - Many thanks for the heads up on how this process works. I didn't realise this was the case.
My timeline has been a little erratic, which would tie in with what you’ve mentioned. From my original order to where I currently am, this is my timeline of events:
June 13th
Placed order with my dealer and left a refundable deposit.
July 15th
Order confirmed with BMW (in other words, confirmation that I’d secured one of the 450 allocation).
9th September
Dealer confirms that the car is now showing as “Scheduled for Production” on the system.
15th September
Dealer confirms that a Week 38 production (week commencing 19th September) is now displayed on the system.
Dealer also confirms that the car will be with them for a Week 40 delivery (week commencing 10th October).
28th September
Dealer confirms that the car has gone into production and is showing up to be delivered on the 20th October.
6th October
Dealer contacts me to say that the car is still showing as “In Production” and will be with them on the 24th October.
My dealer has told me that they can collect the car from the port, which will knock off around 5 days from the delivery, so I may still get it on or around the 20th October. I’ve also been told that the system may not have been updated by BMW (although they are apparently quite good at updating it) and that the next thing I hear is that the car is in the UK. Who knows!
Either way, I should get it by the end of the month…..I hope!
It’s interesting though, as I’ve been tracking my progress against the progress of the Americans (on the 1addicts forum) and all of their cars seem to be moving forward rather than back. In fact, most of their production week dates have come forward by a couple of weeks. I naturally assumed UK owners had simply been "bumped" down the pecking order in order to build the US cars. However judging from your post AOK, this is probably not the case.

If it is any consolation mine was down for production in the first weeks of July and was at the dealers on the 19th July, once it is built delivery can be quick.
What were the next stages after it completed production? In other words, did your dealer tell you that it had left Germany, arrived at the port in the UK, etc. Or did they just call you one day and say "oh your car has been delivered here at the dealers"?I'm trying to work out what I'll hear next. Whether it'll be an update that it's arrived in the UK or simply that it's just turned up at the dealers.
I'm hoping it arrives quicker than the end of the month to be honest, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I took my old car in for a warranty fix and the service guy mentioned a 1M had been delivered that morning, as there were only two going to that dealer and the other was orange we guessed it was mine and went and had a look at it I'm trying to work out what I'll hear next. . The salesman didn't even know it had left Germany yet as the computer didn't say anything.greygoose said:

Hmmm so there may be hope for me then that it'll turn up a bit sooner.

Chris I'm in work tomorrow so PM me the contract no or the order number (if you know it... something like 2079324) and I'll check everything out for you. Out of interest, which dealer have you ordered with?I'm trying to work out what I'll hear next. It even went back to November at one point, wondering how you managed to get yours already ?
