I'm a bit puzzled about M5 Insurance. I'm after a new policy, not looking to adjust an existing policy. I phoned Adrian Flux for a quote (I currently use them for my 156 GTA). Was quoted ~£900 and told that various insurers wouldn't cover me unless "I'd owned a similar car before". Went on to one of the price comparison sites and got quotes starting from ~£350 (with LV). Went on to Direct Line and got a quote for approx ~£450. It all seems a bit wrong to me. I'm 47, live in rural bucks, no points and 10 years + no claims. I am definitely not planning to take the LV policy (there's such a thing as too cheap), but I'm not really sure what my best option is. I don't really want to go with a mass market company, although I can't really justify why.

On a related note, has anyone ever successfully taken out an Admiral Multicar policy. Tried for a quote on-line (M5 Touring & 156 GTA SW with a few mods - coilovers & re-map mainly, myself and my wife as only 2 drivers) was told I needed to phone. Went through a very tedious process where I was grilled about how adjustable the coilovers are. I don't really have a clue, I had them fitted to improve the ride, not so that I could adjust them up and down at will. Turned out that because they're adjustable over 50mm they won't cover me. Although they're adjustable from 30mm - 65mm, so I don't quite agree with their assessment. Quite frustrating really.

Nothing wrong with Liverpool Victoria. My father is dealing with them at the moment after a 90 year old women drove into his 4 week old car. Proceeded to get out and hobble over with a stick and seemed to not understand what all the fuss was about.

Anyway, I have a multi-car policy myself and you do have to call to take it out. Its abit annoying but saved me hundreds so I didn't care. Not sure on their 'mod's' policy but you have to appreciate that most people who mod cars do drive faster or more aggressively and therefore are more likely to involved in an accident.

£300 or even £450 for an M5 is a very good price indeed.

In my experience, AF are a waste of time. They make out they are the enthusiasts choice and do good deals but they wanted almost double what everyone else wanted. Bloke on the phone seemed uninterested and they also asked me that same odd question about previous cars owned, citing that as a reason why their quote was so expensive. What a load of rubbish, I thought, and went back to confused.com!

I flip between Elephant and Admiral every year on a single car policy and am paying around £700 for 5k per year. They are actually the same company but you can play them off of each other. I get my insurance through confused.com too as they seem to be the cheapest place to get the quote and them follow it up with the provider for a bit of a haggle.

I've just gone with Axa for an E60 M5, cost with 9 years no claims at 5k miles a year was a shade over £600, the quote direct from them was £60 cheaper than the one through confused.com
