Hi All,

I'd be interested to get some crystal ball views on the likely residual value of the 1M in six months time.

Annoyingly, in March / April next year I will need to free up some of the cash which is tied up in mine in order to fund a (rather more expensive than expected) house refurb.

My heart is telling me to keep the car until then (when it will have approx 8 - 10,000 miles on the clock) but my brain is telling me to minimise my loss and bail out now whilst it's still factory fresh (1900 miles / 6 weeks old.)

So the question is simple - how much do you think they will drop between now and then?

Cheers
Matt

Bail out now - strike while the iron is hot, next year the novelty of the 1M will be somewhat less and current M3's will be cheaper again.

yeah, I was thinking mid 30s was probably where it would be by then too.

How much do you reckon it's worth now?

Realistically, 42ish or thereabouts.

I'd say this. They are the car of the moment right now, may not be next year

Sell now it is my advise, on the basis of getting 42k private.

Thanks - I've thought about it for a bit and I've decided to put up an advert this weekend.

I dont get why you would buy one then worry about selling it so quick.

I have a "feeling" they will hold very good value (with the rigt miles).

I understand you have reasons matt which is fair play, but there is a few others who bought and sold just to make a grand or so (or less.

I plan to keep mine for at least 2-3 years and would be happy between £25k-+£35k,mine would have around 10k miles after 3 years.

If there isnt nothing that floats my boat when its time to sell (like there isnt just now) i will keep hold.

Buying one and then selling it so fast for the sake of a few k, is insane unless u genuinly dont like the car.

MY gut feeling is just like the E46 CSL, they will hold value if they have thwe right history and miles.

The limited run of 450 should stand them good for not totally blowing theirs brains in value.

Remember a Sub 20k miles CSL is £30k+ all day long and they are more than 6 years old now.

I am also not convinced you would get £42k private when you can still get (if your fast enough) used ones popping up for £43k at main dealers(like i bought).

Most people will want to spend that sort of money at a main dealer but its worth a shot.

Brad

I think the values will be strong short term but they WILL make another 1 series M car and the new M3 will be of similar turbocharged fun. Thats when their exclusivity will dilute and values fall. They are not 'off the wall' enough to become a cult car.

In short, bail out now. They are of the moment, sold out and in demand, what more can you ask for in this climate

Im just amazed at the number of owners who have bought and sold as soon as the car got past its run in service. Whats the point?

Would be interesting to hear what cars they have bought instead.

Would be amusing if they were all sporting mapped 135i's. Haha!

Cant see them giving up the handling of the 1M wink

The 135 handling isnt even close to the 1M (ive drove both in anger)

Worry about depreciation? After all it is 1 series with a £45k tag. In all the threads on the 1M, I have seen frequent mention of "if it was £35k I would buy it".

Even at £35k, it is in competition with the E92 M3, a car that is a full fat M car and better chassis - same width, but the length matters wink

The arse will fall out of them for sure, they will never be worth more than a similar age M3 and they can be had for 25k these days. No chance of them following in CSL footsteps.

Look at the z4M coupe, only 520 ish in the UK and pretty much sub 20k from a spec'd list of high 40's.

Reckon they'll lose 10k+ in next 9-12 months and then fall at around 4-5k for next two years, in line with most M cars

Sorry to piss on your chips 1M owners!!

The above may well happen, they said the CSL would loose a fortune (it did intially) and has now held great value, there is a good few CSL owners sold up and bought the 1M, so what does that tell you?

I love the Z4M and they are a very quick, well put together cars (ive driven both) but i will stick my neck on line and say the 1M is a much more capable car.

Anyone buying these sort of cars and worried about losing a fortune is buying the wrong car as its always a gamble.

My prediction is the 1M will be £35k at 12 months old.
