well after seeking some advice from this board I have bought myself an E60 M5...
Must admit I ended up buying pretty much the cheapest around and the only one I looked at.. it wasnt my intention as I was planning to shop around and pay 5k more for an absolute minter with new clutch etc etc.
What ended up happening is I looked at a car 1 mile from a mates house that had been part exchanged for a new merc... it was a 1 owner car with 80k on the clock and the body isnt mint but its very good... the clincher is they took my ML500 in part exchange and whilst I could have got 500 more selling private it would have taken a while to sell regardless of price so it removed the hassle which really really appealed (never part ex'd a car before).
I actually figured I could shop around more but finding a one owner car with full service history and a high spec for a good price was pretty much the same risk as more expensive cars and I have spare cash to spend on 'issues' or choice mods (read exhaust lol)
So first impressions are that I am very very impressed, the car weighs a lot and you can feel it, but the way it manages it is a surprise... comfort wise its exceeded my hopes, I admit i'm used to much more basic interiors etc (putting it mildly lol) but the merc was top spec and doesnt compare.
Having done some looking around online I do have a few plans, mainly exhaust, but I also fancy a front splitter and colour coding the wheels

Congrats mate, glad you have entered the fold. One question however: Does it have a BMW Warranty from the previous owner? 87k on the clock wont give you long before it becomes a financilly unsound machine even if it does have a warranty (100k mile limit before they start shrinking the cover). Youve made a bold move buying a car at that price and in its current condition. I saw this car online recently so i keep my fingers crossed for you.
I dont want to sound negative so please dont take it that way. Im just thinking about the fact that there are cars of the same price below 60k miles that would at least have the option of peace of mind that is BMW warranty. Like i said, fingers crossed for you and i hope it serves you well.

Nice motor - congrats, but please don't ruin it with gangsta innit painted wheels.
These cars look best unfaffed with.
If you want to be 'different, slap some Alpina on it - wheels, bodykit parts - although it'll not be cheap.
~Totally agree, i hate it when I see good cars ruinedThese cars look best unfaffed with.

there were no 60k cars around that I have seen for the money I paid... and from the sound of it they self destruct at 100k, i thought the concensus was that they take the miles well? I have money aside for clutch and brakes should the car require them... not sure about the 'current condition' comment as you make it sound like its tatty and it is far from that? if you taking my comment about it not being mint then i guess you have taken it too literally as i am very picky in what I consider mint.I dont want to sound negative so please dont take it that way. anyhow moving on... so the concensus is that black wheels are a huge no no?... def doing the exhaust at some stage although worried about what db it will be as don't want issues with noise at track days.
wont be fitting any body kits, car doesnt need them, just a front splitter imho... although i not rushing out to do any mods at all.

Exhausts are going to be hard to decide upon without hearing them first - Eissemann (sp?) is one of the most highly regarded, from what I recall.

Well done pal, looks very nice. Looking at getting one myself early next year. How are you finding the performance? How much did you pick this up for if you don't mind me asking ?
it was advertised at just under 16k, I got it for less.... I know its a risk but I have kept the extra 5k I was planning to spend on buying a car in the bank ready for 'issues' and I havn't stretched myself financially. I've gone into it with my eyes open.
performance is a very personal thing, i'm used to well over 600bhp in 700kgs less weight so its was never going to blow me away in that stakes.... it is a seriously impressive car though and very fast for the weight... i thought the engine in my E36 M3 was great, but this is even better (i love revs).
Best sounding car I have ever owned

good idea about hearing the exhausts... I like the H&S one that the black estate one on here had fitted (recent thread), love to hear and see that one in the flesh, Im around 30 miles from H&S as well which is a benefit.
I do have a guy that makes extremelly high quality exhaust for me (made the one off one for my noble)... but off the shelf will easier and cheaper lol

heres one at 62k miles with a BMW warranty for the same money as yours:

Looking in the £16k to £17k bracket there are cars with circa 50k on the clock.

Think they move about to keep you secure when you doing a bit of heavy footed driving.
I heard they were more a pain than a help as often would suddenly dig you in the side even though you only doing 70mph on a motorway on a relatively smooth bend.
sure someone here knows the official explanation of them
