Quite simply.........awesome exhaust systems and sound brilliant! They do different systems depending on how loud you want.

What engine does it have? If it's a 335i I'm surprised you'd want to change the exhaust. I was absolutely bowled over at how loud the exhaust is on the 335i for a stock car, especially a BMW. Even the 330i I went in sounded quite fruity.
Lol. Its in the M Forum mate! Look at the car.Pete, all those letters and numbers equate to a car that's got all the best bits on the list. The important ones, EDC and DCT mean that you have the best handling option ticked and the best transmission option. Having these bits means your car will perform as it should and not be lacking where it should be showing off. When you come to sell it on you'll also be in a better position.

I am actually extremely surprised at how smooth the ride is, and in full auto mode the really nice gear changes. I never got the chance to drive it with the hood down, so haven't heard the engine at full chat yet, but I suspect its not gonna sound too great hence wanting to upgrade the exhaust. Really does sound awful on startup. The other thing I noticed was the difference the extra weight from the hood makes, I guess thats the sacrifice you have to make if you want a convertible. Shame they didn't make the hood from carbon fibre.Pete, all those letters and numbers equate to a car that's got all the best bits on the list. Opps lol, so it's an M3, now I understand why he wants the exhaust change as the M3's I have been in have also been disappointingly quiet, surprisingly the 335i and 330i's seem more vocal!Eisenmann seem to be the firm favourite although I am in agreement that the Eisenmann Race version is probably a bit too loud for daily use. The Eisennmann Sport might be your best bet. Other good options are a Tubi which are about £1800 and sound very good. The ultimate IMO are the Akprovic's but they are serious money, we are talking £4k+ for the titanium version but the sound is just

Exhaust sound preference is purely subjective. If you like the sound but just want more of it, i.e. louder then just knock out the secondary cats. If you want to change the actual tone / type of noise then change the back box. The titanium exhausts completely change the tone and sound less like a BMW M and more like a Ferrari. I was advised by a number of people that Remus back boxes produce too much drone.
OP, what do you mean the engine sounds awful at start-up? How much do you know about the car you bought?

It's not just the car I have bought, I have owned an E46 and seen several E9**'s in the past, I personally find them very rattle'y sounding, kind of like a diesel. They seem to get better once they have warmed up.P101 said:

Personally, I liked the metallic thrashy sound while warming up. An exhaust wouldn't necessarily help with this unless it was so loud that it drowned it out while idling. After all you are sitting closer to the engine than the tail pipes. Also it does sound sublime once over 5000rpm on the stock exhaust.
None of the above stopped my mum asking me what was broken with it the first time she heard the cold start up though!

The S65 engine sounds nothing like a diesel. From cold, there is a cold-start sequence which is to warm the primary cats up faster. Personally I love it, it sounds like a racecar (when the sound bounces of the walls in my garage) with it's off-beat chatter and fast idle.Speak to Evolve about exhaust choices for your requirements. If you want performance gains as well as sound, then a different x-pipe without primary cats and only high-flow secondaries is the way to go. Additionally, the cold start sequence will be far shorter as there won't be any cats to warm up.
