E63 M6, opinions wanted
Discussion
Hi all,
It's coming up to a year driving my E46 M3 CS and thinking about a change. I really like the M3 so might keep hold of it for occasional use.
So I'm thinking about what to get next and I do like the look of the M6. Now I've never driven one so before I start some serious looking it would be good to get some feedback from current owners on the driving feels and positives and negatives.
I've driven a 650i and wasn't that keen with the very light feeling front end and the car felt big and heavy. I'm presuming the ///M will feel completely different as M's usually do to standard cars.
I'm not fussed about depreciation/running costs, I would get a car with a BMW warranty and I'd probably look at spending £30kish so would be aiming at getting a pretty tidy, mid mileage car.
Is the M6 a real GT or is it still fun enough on UK B roads? Can you really get to stretch that V10 and keep your license?

no it wont really. but it is an excellent write up of the E60/61 M5.ive recently made the jump from a E46 M3 to an M6. from a performance point of view the m6 is in another league. the type of power delivery you get from the M6 is completely different. it is a true GT. very comfortable, big boot, not much space in the back though. rear seats are comparable to an E46 M3 but there is no middle seat!
the M6 hides its weight very well, it is very precise on corners and pulls very well in every gear. much "torquier" than an E46. wonderful engine and exhaust note. wonderfully spec'd as standard. its the perfect upgrade from an E46. stunning cars that get comments from strangers etc at every occasion, its a bit embarrasing really (really awesome tbf) this car rubs shoulders with real supercars and it is a car you can drive easily EVERY DAY.
I have had this one from new. The only real problem with is was a complete ECU meltdown due to underuse. ( It only has 18,000 miles since 2006). Its a great long distance car..amazingly comfortable and bloody quick. Definitely not a track car, but a great road going GT. The transmission is rubbish is auto mode, but with a minimal amount of skill can be shifted very smoothly in manual. All the stuff about iDrive being impossible is nonsense. Most of the stuff you set up once. QUality of the interior is outstanding. Mine was BMW individual, so interior might not appeal to many. Full leather /alcantera interior and all limiters removed by Hartge. Top whack over 200MPH.......

nothing to add, apart from just do it! You won`t regret it. They are the performance car bargain of the century. Buy from Bm, get Bm warranty and drive it like you stole it. Get full leather, not extended, makes the cabin much nicer, oh and piano black trim. 30k ish should buy a good one.
That's some pretty positive feedback guys thanks! I believe there was a slight facelift in late 06 and some new software as well. Is there a great difference?
I'd definitely get an AUC car with full warranty as had this on all my previous BMW's and have been impressed with the service I've received.

Had mine 4 weeks, '58 plate 9k miles. I have had 3 M5's the last being an E60 which I ran for 3 years and 50k miles. I think the M6 is a better car than the M5 if I am honest, it certainly is more upmarket and feels a proper luxury car with a fantastic interior, but performance at least the equal of the M5 and probably slightly better. I have just done a 1300 mile continental trip and it was outstanding, as others have said a true GT. I have not had a chance to really test out the handling yet so feel less able to comment on this aspect.
