After resetting the mileage counter on the 2nd refuel - I've just managed 240 miles on a tank.

Any ideas on the cause of this "fault"?

Seriously bloody impressed! After everything I'd read on here I was expecting 150 max given that I've been easing into the car for a week now and have started testing out the 6k-8k rev range increasingly frequently wink

Only odd thing so far is the fact that it seems to want to keep pulling away from a stop in 2nd when in D mode. What's all that about? Can't be good on the clutch surely. Also a bit of driveline shunt but I guess that's par for the course.

???

dont drive it in D for christ sake. drive it in manual, as you say you will nacker the clutch.

240 miles sounds about average for a mix of fast/town and motorway driving. im currently averaging 18.1 mpg and will probably get 290 miles from this tank (E63 M6).

I think it has five settings for D mode gear-changes? In the DCT M3, one pip starts in 2nd, from 2 pips on it starts in first. Is it the same with the M5/M6?

Stick it on S5 and you'll never have to worry about 2nd gear starts again.

240 Miles, how late did you leave it before filling up?

For me the "low fuel" warning comes on at about 150 miles, but it looks like I've still got 1/4 of a tank left. I've not managed over 200 miles from a tank yet before I've bottled it and filled up.

Is there any type of "last chance" warning I should be waiting for before I jump?

When I filled up It took 62L to fill, so plenty of juice left even after 240 miles!

I had the 535D down to 1 mile left on a couple of occasions eek

You can programme her key differently to yours so she runs it in D3 or D4. Same goes for the seat and comfort settings. That way you can control how she drives it.

Don't leave it pulling away in 2nd all the time as it wears the clutch out. Bought an M3 (SMG) from a guy who had lived in London with it for 2 years and thought this was better for itrolleyes

Hehe, I managed to get 300miles out of 3/4 tank while in Europe with 70mph on the cruise control. It was so boring I vowed never to repeat the experiment. Averaging 19.2mpg with normal motorway driving between Blackheath and Portsmouth and some London driving.

I also managed to use 67 litres of Aral's fines 102 octane fuel while getting lost 6 times around the one-way-toll-road between Nurburg and Adenau. That equates to 5mpg...

Yeah its really simple. set up the car exactly how you want it, inc all comfort, gearbox and climate settings, press the M button on the side of the seat so it lights up red. Then press the button marked 1. That's thememory and your key set. You can do 2 and 3 but there's no real need. With your wifes key do the same once she has set her requirements. 2 keys, his and hers.

Never knew that! Everyday a schoolday. If you have comfort access, does the key need to be in the binnacle?

Erm, as I don't have it I'm not sure. But you can only try.

How far away should the other key be? smile
Is it the key that opened the car? Or just the one in nearest proximity?
And after you've set it, and we are both in the car, does the car realise who is driving?
Sorry for the numpty questions... but curious to learn
