Been offered two with exactly the same part x on my car, which do you think is better value for money?

Both have red leather, satnav, heated seats, and just about every other option! They both are in a simular condition (obv the high miler has more wear and tear) and have fsh decent tyres etc!

A Black, bog standard one with 68,000 mile for £14,500

A gunmetal grey one with 36,000 miles, genuine csl wheels and stainless exhaust system for £18,500

The black one sounds like a bit of a bargain depending on condition. I suppose it also depends if you plan on carrying out the same mods as the gun metal coupe after purchase? what car are you part ex'ing? is this garage prices or private?

Are you sure? They're difficult to spot, and the one you linked to in another thread looked like it had reps on.

Are these private sales or trade sales?

Are they both the same age?

Have they both got FULL service history - especially the lower mileage one as you're supposed to service (oil only) it biennially (every 2 years) if you don't do enough mileage to trigger the on-board service schedule.

What tyres are on the CSL wheels - if they're cheap tyres then it's likely the owner has bought cheap copies of CSLs too.

Is the exhaust a well-known brand, or a back-street mandrel-bent tube POS?

Ok I thought they were genuine because they had all the BMW code stamps etc on them but looking at that link it seems some good reps do too!

So for the sake of this excersice let's say they are replicas!

Exhaust didnt have a brand on the tailpipe but didn't ask dealer if he knew! Sounded bloody amazing though!

And they are both from (independent, small dealers!

I'd go for the lower mileage one.
It's still a lot of car for the money and you can have the pleasure of putting on the miles!

That is plainly not correct...

Was just going to tell you how stupid you were and to RTFM as it says as much in the owner's manual - but re-read my previous post and I've left in 'annually', instead of 'biennially' as I forgot which 'bi' meant twice-a-year and which meant every-2-years, so you're correct.

Edited to fix banghead

£4k is a large difference. That buys you some CSL type wheels and a stainless exhaust with plenty spare.

So the real decision is based on the mileage difference.

Exactly!

Is there anything a should consider about buying a 68,000 miler over a 38,000 miler though?

E.g. Is it due a P2 service at 70,000, will I struggle to sell it, is it worn out and about to blow up?

It's had 6 or 7 main dealer services In its life!

Servicing doesn't work on a strict mileage basis like that. You'll need to check the service schedule. As I'm sure you know, it goes Oil, Insp 1, Oil, Insp 2, Oil, Insp 1, Oil, Insp 2 etc etc.

It's "condition based", but if you reckon on circa 13k miles between each (depending on how it has been driven) it should be just about due (or recently had) an Insp 1. Probably circa £700 at a main dealer.

And make sure it had its running in service at 1200 miles.
