Evening all.
I've been scouring the classifieds for a while looking for an E36 M3 of some description. Having considered long and hard I talked myself into a convertible, I know it's not quite as focused as the coupe but the fun factor swung it for me.
I'd been gently getting my ducks in a row finance-wise but needed to sell my bargain barge A4 first. This was quite a frustrating process as a few nice ones came and went on the classifieds.
Then, on Friday, all of the ducks flipped into position. In the morning I'd seen a new E36 appear on Autotrader at £3995. Flip me, I said, that's a nice colour. Looked like a peach.
At lunchtime I decided that the Barge hadn't generated much interest on PH so created a Gumtree advert. Within three hours I had a call from a chap about a mile from me, who arrived within the hour and gave me cash. Just below the asking price and a decent profit!
Later in the evening I decided to give the M3 a call. Very pleased that the price had dropped to £3395... Spoke to the chap, sounded decent enough so agreed to go up the next day.
Went up to Leicester with a PH co-pilot on Saturday. Had a look around the car and identified a few minor issues but it drove beautifully and the engine was clearly a peach, so shook hands at £3100. Apparently there had been minor interest at the previous price but at the lower price his phone was ringing off the hook!

I'm delighted. It's a 1998 Evolution with 112k on the clock. Very well specced and absolutely everything electrical works. I'm going to restore the standard suspension as a matter of priority, and there are a few other minor tidying jobs to do, like a new radio aerial. Part of the inner roof has become detached and snags slightly however the roof and motors are working fine.
I know it's not the most "original" M3- The SMG gearbox has been converted to manual, and it hasn't got reams of BMW history. But it seems to have been well looked after, and the interior is absolutely immaculate- Genuinely mint. The exterior is in great shape too, only a couple of minor scuffs, as are the wheels...
I'm pleased. Getting used to driving it coming from a pig slow 1.8 Auto A4 is quite an eye opener! I absolutely love the Techno Violet colour.
Will be back soon with a "things to sort" thread. To be honest I'm quite relishing the opportunity for a bit of tinkering and making my beautiful car perfect- And back to OEM!
