http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3543592.htm this one looks well maintained and cared for by the previous owner

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2973352.htm this one has lower miles and all the discs and pads changed and a clutch not to long back

The black one's sold, have a look on forum 5. http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/62946-e39-m5-carbon-...

Quite a bit cheaper leaving some money over for maintenance and mods.

I am (fingers crossed) halfway through selling my current car when it sells I will be getting a M5 as soon as possible.

Just trying to get a feel for the market and what's out there.

One thing to bear in mind, a top-dollar example will still sting you with large bills. It maybe more prudent to seek out a cheaper, good condition car and have the work carried out, so you know it has been done, and done properly.

I know of a £10k car, that then threw a big wobbly to the tune of £3k+.

Not saying that is the best bet, but just one possible avenue.

The first one looks fantastic

Got mine recently, le mans blue and a superb example - needed a few cosmectic bits and new pads sorting but all done now, looks like new and looks bloody fantastic, still got 5 green lights too.

Had it checked over before purchase HPI and mechanics

I think as long as its got fsh and a recent inspection you should be fine and surprise free, but do bear in mind, you get anywhere between 7-25 miles per gallon so it will be an expensive daily driver.

Great cars, and end of the day for the money, what are you going to get thats better? Just make sure you get a decent one and not one thats been thrashed and ridden on the clutch. If there are dents and stone chips I would ignore those as a plus 10 year old car is going to get a few bumps/scratches, they are easilly sorted.

Based on the adverts, #1 has a clear lead - better colour scheme, warranty, and the advert has clearly been written by an enthusiast.

With any car I'd be scrutinising the history very carefully.

I think they're both overpriced. I bought a 2002 with 69k, in Estoril Blue, full history, warranty, stunning condition, top spec etc etc in August last year for 10k. I didn't think it was a bargain but reasonable.

They both appear to be lovely examples to be fair and if I were to buy one of them it would definitely be the blue one. I can't see any reason why the black one would be worth 1k more.

If you want a late, top notch E39 M5 I reckon 10k should easily do it if you take your time.

Good luck with your search and you won't regret buying one of these great cars!

Hi Sammy,
Im presuming you are from Norlog and have the S160 that ive seen in Pheonix a few times? anyhow I got my M5 a couple of months back I vlove it. I went to see several over a 4 month period, and bought on history/condition rather than price/mileage etc and ended up buying one for much less than I was willing to spend, so what i am saying is dont rule out cheaper examples too as you would have money left over that way just in case.
Give me a shout over on Norlog if you want to know anything.

Hi Mark,

Yeah I have the S160 smile have you had your M5 down at Phoenix? Gregg said he had one in and we pretty impressed with it when I was talking to him about them.

I'm not going to rush into anything just want to make sure I get a good one!

S160? Is that an Elise? The M5 will be a LOT different to that mate. My Rx7 feels like a gnat in comparison to my M5, and must be at least 200kg heavier than an Elise. Having said that, the M5 is the best all-round car, by a mile, I've ever driven.

I have not advertised it but someone contacted me asking if I would consider selling so I have him a price I wanted and he seems pretty happy with it. Hopefully will be sorted by next weekend.

If you are spending full whack, it has to be this one.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3523040.htm

Its common for sellers to say that their car is 'fully loaded' or 'max spec' but this one actually is (almost). One of the very last, warranty, almost every option (I have to be really picky on the ones its missing) and looks in great shape.

However, you can still get a decent one for alot less.

I must be missing something here.

I bought mine last Feb. 48,000 miles.Feb 2000 pre facelift. Imola red. Red and black leather. 4 new tyres dunlop SP somethings. Not FSH but 5 stamps (ideally I'd have had one every year regardless of miles covered) mot certs to verify mileage. refurbed wheels as new (I've since kerbed 2 but I'm almost over it 9 weeks later!!).

I gave £9.5k for it.

Both overpriced. Fortunately for you, it's a buyers market.

Does look a good one, although I'm pretty sure that towbar is not an OE/Westfalia one - the neck of mine detaches (via a key) and stores perfectly in the cutout of the polystyrene where the M mobilty pack goes, whereas the one pictured wouldn't slot in there I don't think.

I paid similar for mine just over a year ago, but I would say the market has fallen a fair bit further since and having kept an eye on many of the cars coming up for sale I would say with a bit of patience you should be able to buy a fantastic example for 10k or less.
