hi there, i currently own a tvr so thought i'd pop over to this forum to say hi, well really looking for some advice, obviously a tvr isnt very family friendly and now i have a family i was looking to buy an E46 m3, i was wondering if there were any decent power gains that could be achieved without turbo or supercharging it, i realise they are highly tuned engines any way so guess any upgrades would be modest? thanks in advance

G-Power do a supercharger kit for the E46 M3, power in the region of 450-470.
Evolve automotive are the UK dealer.
yeah but thats the tip of the iceberg though surely, do you not need lots more as well? that sounds cheap for a full system, any way any other upgrades that can make a difference? thanks guysEvolve automotive are the UK dealer.

As for the cost, I'm not sure but would be a few grand I suspect.
hi andy, let me start by saying ive had 2 TVR's a chim 450 and a cerb 4.2 both were amazing cars.
iv also had an e46 m3 and have just bought another.
i also used both of my tivs as an every day car.
i dont want to start an argument but unless your chim is a very good 500 the m3 will be as fast if not faster. and the grip and handling will be diffrent less direct/twichy but the car will feel so much more "planted" and as a result you will find you can corner much faster than you would in the tiv.
when i had my cerb a good friend had an m3 csl the tiv was faster but not by much but in the bends he was just gone.
in short the problem is that you just cant replace the occasion that you get from looking at \owning and driving a tiv.
but if you want a brillant drive with good(ish) MPG and practality get an e46 m3 you wont find better for the money.
also get an SMG its a strange thing to begin with but once you master it its just the best and it really adds to that missing sense of occasion.

At the risk of starting an argument (!)...
I have a tuned Chim 450 at about 300bhp and an E46 M3 as a daily driver and I have to say that the cars are both fast in entirely different ways as the power delivery is like night and day.
Nothing I have driven yet accelerates as immediately as my TVR, just a factor of it's light weight and mega torque however obviously it doesn't rev like the M3 does. I'd agree with the previous posters assertion that the M3 is faster in the corners, the damping and grip levels are far far superior to the TVR despite the weight penalty but there is also a confidence factor due maybe to the DSC and traction control on the M3. You take corners at speeds you wouldn't dream of in the tiv which I think accounts for a lot.
I think 0-60 and maybe 30-50 or 40-60 the TVR is quicker undoubtably but for the 0-100 or quarter mile you'd have to start putting your money on the M3. Makes sense really just look at the power to weight 300bhp @ 1100kg vs 344bhp @ 1550kg...
And one final thing, if you like TVRs then you like driver involvement so get a manual M3 not an SMG.

i do love the tiv and i must say i am a fan of light cars, but as i have to think about the family and the tiv isnt practical enough, the trouble is with modern cars in my opinion, is that they detach you from the experience of driving, id rather not have traction control/abs sensors for this that and the other, but all cars come with that these days, apart from the sound, thats what i love about the tiv is the simplicity of it, if i make a mistake its my fault, but i do love BMW's i have owned a e36 328i and it was good, i must say i do like the appeal of haing as much power in an m3 with reasonable fuel consumption if you're careful, with the tiv, its just thirsty lol, any way thanks for all the advice and i think ill definately go down the m3 route and poss upgrade it when i get some spare cash
