Really, that is about 100 bhp more than 'sprint engines' were putting out back in the day.

On the actual Auction House advert, the cage was completely different in every photo of the "car"

Wonder how much of it is original?

Still wouldn't mind owning it though....

Only repeating what one of the guys manning the stand said. To be competitive with the turbo charged Fords of the day they must have been up that area somewhere??

The turbo'd Ford Sierra won the BTCC in 1990, but that was against M3's bored/stroked down to a maximum of 2000cc, as the rules stipulated. It was withdrawn from the DTM championship at the end of 1989 due to further regulation changes, in the previous years they were forced to run with restrictors in place.

Soper's 2.5 litre M3, introduced in 1990, did not have 480bhp, if it had this sort of power then it would have performed better against the Audi's and Merc's in DTM 1990 onwards.

480bhp, that's nearly 200bhp per litre!! From a 2.5 NA engine, somehow I doubt it very much. Must have been measured on an American Dyno. wink
