In short, my M3 doesn't autoblip on downshifts like the CSL. I recently had the SMG software updated thinking it would add this function, but it didn't. Any suggestions?

I think it needs the CSL software.

Can't be done, easily, CSL ECU is different, not just the software.

Buy a CSL

I thought you got autoblips with shift program 4 or higher, it worked on a normal 02 M3 I had for a while.

Auto blip on non CSLs only works when changing down gears with the throttle pressed. Braking and down changing doesn't give that function, where as the CSL does.

There's no autoblip on mine as it requires throttle application. As I understand it some M3s do it and some don't, depending on the SMG software version? Autoblip on the CSL is sublime with that airbox! One day...

It definitely blips on mine with just braking and down changing. Maybe it's just when revs are particularly low.

Should have been a feature on the standard M3 or at least an upgrade / option.

I think if the lower gear selected will result in an engine speed above 4000rpm you will get the auto-blip. I really thought they all did it....

My CS auto blips when changing down at higher revs (about > 3.5k, at lower revs it can be prompted to do it by applying a little bit of gas. Not sure it thats the same with standard M3's as CS has some of the CSL software (M-Track etc).

It makes sense really, you don't want the throttle blip when just cruising to a junction when the SMG is dropping to a lower gear at low revs but at higher revs it does it to match the engine speed.

Mine definitely seems to auto-blip more when rolling past cafes in small medieval French villages in the summer time, very odd...

If you're cruising to a halt or on full attack and downshift within the proper rev range for each gear you won't see a blip occurring as it is obviously unnecessary as the wheels match the transmission speed. This is exactly how it worked on my SMGII equipped Z4 and what you would expect.
