Hi, Does anyone know any tech on the rear load cover closer? Mines been a bit intermitten in when it chooses to close after the glass panel or boot is open and closed. I`ve been back to BMW and they`ve replaced the switch on the glass panel and messed around with it and each time reporting no faults. Just before christmas it completly failed! Great i thought now it will get fixed, So the car go`s back to BMW as its developed an airbag and seat belt safety restraint fault aswell! That fault need a new loom section which required the fuel tank to be removed and at the same time they would fix the load cover closer. Thats all been fixed except the bloody cover! So now after a conversation with BMW i`ve just been told my car doesn`t have that option and it was availible on my year either! Next they`ll be telling me its still my old 535 and its never been an M5! So is there anything i can look for to test or prove it has a rear closer on the load cover? As i feel i`ve got a fightpunch looming with the service desk!

Look in the slots that the cover travels in - if you see what look like fuzzy springs then you have the automatic cover. As far as I know all E61 M5s have this.

Just dropped mine off today and this is one of the items on the list to be fixed - it very rarely works.

Common fault on E61s. Normally a motor issue or jammed threads.

Fixed it! After having a good butchers at it i`ve noticed it wasn`t full retracking to its maximum. So if i push it open fully it will then close as BMW intended, a bit of silicon grease spray add a bit of toing and frowing and now it works perfectly smile
I can`t wait for the service departments excuse for my car now having a working load cover that it aparently never came withrolleyes

Cool, cheap fix!

I actually read a while back that it could be fixed by just forcing it but i wasnt convinced that method would work without consequences later. Seems you proved it right.
