The M5 is coming out of hibernation this week and I need a little help for a trip I am planning (taking my son to a training course).

The trip is 300 miles each way and almost all motorway so my question is simple - how far will a full tank get me ?(not filled it up for a year so not even sure how much it costs to fill up). I will just be travelling at 70mph so not exactly flying.

The good thing is I should be able to claim around 50% of the fuel cost back so any advice welcome smile

18.5 gallon tank, prob 24 mpg with no aircon at this time of year...i'd say you'd do over 400 miles at a steady 70mph...

I'd be surprised if u got much over 350miles.

I used to get 280 or so to a tank day to day but even when cruising they seem to be fairly uneconomical.

I consistently get 350 miles at 24.x MPG. 10% urban and 90% in sixth gear on the motorway. Each fill is approx 65 litres smile

400 at a steady 70 would definitely be possible

Furthest I have ever got on a single tank of fuel is 369 miles. See http://www.fuelly.com/driver/quinten/m5/log. 300 should be doable.

Don't know about your driving style but at a steady 70 I could just about crack 30 mpg in both my M5s.
Certainly 28-29 is possible without too much effort. That should give you a range of well over 400 miles.

I achieved the Ring to home (Guildford) on one tank including 60 miles off of the motorway. Total was well over 400 miles.

Drove back from Glasgow when I bought the car and managed 28.2mpg. At 70mph 400miles to a tank (now £100) is easy.

Cheers for the replies guys. Will certainly take some pics let you all know how I get on. Never been to the Lake District before so if the snow has gone then hopefully there are a few nice roads to drive.
