Seriously, which numpty is telling people these cars are now worth millions?

My old one was H reg, had 110K miles (176KM), the ubiquitous Milltek and braided hoses etc And virtually every reciept since new. Including the original faherzergbrief (sp?) as well as german service book and handbook pack. Can I ask how replacing a knackered dizzy and HT leads is a selling point worth mentioning?
(I don't buy the always dry stored line either. Unless you owned it from new, how can you know for sure?)
Sold for under £12k, 6 months ago. So he reckons another £10K in value?
Might actually be worth it if he had the inevitable rust (they ALL rust at some point) sorted as well but no mention of that

I too find E30 M3 prices staggering but its the market dictating the values. After I saw the one for sale at Barney's place I had a look round on Google, lots for sale in Europe at 60k / 70k Euros. Saw one at 99,000 Euros. Seems the investor market has firmly got hold of these now, who knows where prices will end up... or perhaps the bubble will burst (doubt it).In terms of the car up at nearly £60k at Classic Heroes, if it were my money i'd much rather have a fleet of motors (including a E46 M3 CSL and probably some Pork) rather than 1 museum piece car that I shouldn't be putting miles on.

Some asking prices are a bit bonkers but then I'll bet there were similar discussions about the air cooled Porsches not that long ago. Good luck to the guy if he can shift it at that price because as an owner myself, I wont be complaining

Some asking prices are a bit bonkers but then I'll bet there were similar discussions about the air cooled Porsches not that long ago. Good luck to the guy if he can shift it at that price because as an owner myself, I wont be complaining Air colled pork prices still are bonkers, there's a few non Clubsport 993RS's in Europe at the mo with 160K + Euro asking prices.

I sold mine for more or less what I wanted. I priced it according to the cars on sale at the same time with the same mielage and FSH. I wanted it gone before the end of summer.
Given matey wants £22,5 and there's no other cars at that price that aren't rarer versions suggests he's going to be holding onto it for a while. Same as the other majority of cars on that section of the classifieds. All overpriced and been advertised for months. I expect in due course we'll see the obligatory "why is my classic car not selling, I was told their worth loads" thread If he genuinely gets over £21K for that I'll buy everyone above a coffee at Gaydon this year.
Also he's only owned it for under 2 years kinda suggests he's found something looming so wants rid of. Of course it could be that he paid way too much for it 18 months ago. So is hoping to get back some of his money. Whilst I accept a good one is appreciating, it isn't outstripping classic 911s for mark up (or 530i Sports )

)prices are out of line in my view. the reality is that few examples of this era are genuinely mint. those that are, i can see a decent value for a decent car. the rest seem to have taken a ride on this fad and i feel sorry for anyone buying into a ropey 80's M car at current prices. you can tell the market is ripe when every baggy old beemer is coming to the market, with owners hardly believing their collective luck.... however, of late it seems the market is coming to its senses - lots of the advertised cars have been up for an age....

As said above, some do get a tad carried away and think all cars (of the same model) are equal.
TBH I have owned mine for almost eight years and I got it because I just love the car (and have for years). It's only really in the last four or five years that the E30 M3 has become the 'must have' or the 'itch I must scratch' for most. Inevitably that has given rise to the speculators and the chancers.
At the time I bought mine I did have the dosh to afford a Sport Evo but decided on a late model regular M3. Do I regret it seeing as the Sport Evo is fetching up to 80k? In a way I guess, I would be lying if I said I didn't but it would have become what they ALL have now, which is that of a 'garage queen', just too precious. And as Chris (above) can testify to, mine gets driven!

I'd had my eye on M3's for maybe 18 months before I purchased mine in September '10. Prices since then have risen ever so slightly (with the odd dreamer as above) but it seems to me that the supply of unmolested cars is really drying up. Over the period I was looking there was vary rarely more than 20 adverts on PH. Ten of these are usually wanted ads, race cars etc. Of the remainder there is usually only maybe one or two that are unmodified and unmolested. The same goes for ebay, Car & Classic etc.
People are still buying these cars and dropping S50 motors in, modifying them, converting them for track cars etc and many are rusting away. Personally I think the E30 M3 (and some sports) are now entering "real" classic status and purchasing one now at a good price will always be a decent investment. Of course the classic car market is volatile but I just don't see prices dropping for good examples.
