BMW dealer puts price up by £2k on used M3?!!!!
Discussion
I have had my eye an M3 for a few months, it clearly has not sold, so today the dealer up the price up to £37k?
I am assuming it is a simple marketing tactic... people enquire about the car and the dealer offers a magical huge discount?? The buyer thinks... omg.. thats amazing buy buy buy.
I don't get it to be honest... if anything it will put buyers off as it is now over priced!
What the heck are BMW playing at? Plums.

How is it illegal?
If they raise the price only to subsequently lower it to show an exagerated "Sale" or "price reduction", that is misrepresntation of price. They can price at whatever level they want, and change it as they see fit. They fall foul of the law if they chose to highlight or promote any price comparisons.

It's not illegal, there is some government guidelines on it but they're entitled to inflate or reduce the price of their car as they like, however if they are having a sale, the price they are reducing it from needs to have been the price for "a minimum of 30 days".
I used to be a sales manager and business manager so had to go through thus twice a year (Feb and August) every year. We had to put all the prices up at the start of Feb so in mid March after the rush of new plates we could have a "7 day sale with huge discounts" which were actually just the cars being reduced back down to what they were, pretty disgusting practise and one of the many reasons I left. All of the big dealer groups still do it.
I've got an E92 M3 so if you want any tips or advise on what to look for then please feel free to give me a shout.
Good luck.

So by your own comment above it IS illegal, if the parameters you state (incorrectly) are not adhered to. If you ask your legal advisor they will confirm the case law, and will help you avoid any. Is it because it's approaching end of financial year and they are trying inflate their assets ?
Inflate/protect revenue due to the impending plate change. The sale price won't affect the value as stock.I guess if you manage to sell pre March then drinks all round. Otherwise, bump up and then drop back in early March and hope no one notices. Only thing is, I guess some people do - a Z4 coupe I was keeping an eye on pending March 1st just happens to have increased by a bag this week.

Seems common practice at the moment... It is possible they may be pricing high to show an inflated discounted "sale" price when they are shifting their p/xs come March. Despite being illegal it does happen.
as long as the higher price is charged for a certain period of time they can use that as the 'before' price when discounting ... ( iirc it's 28 days and while this isn't relevant to cars doesn't have to be all places selling the product ) ProjectBayern said:

That's very kind of you.
I am quite annoyed with the pricing, so I will be as cheeky as BMW are being right now and offer them what I think their cars are worth. Clearly their pricing is a lot of bs.
If I can't get what I am after I will prob go for a Audi s5 or a e350 coupe...
Well... I am hoping I get a nice m3... Let's hope the market tanks and BMW sell s
t all so they will have to reduce their pricing...IMac said:
