alright guys
have any of you driven one of these before? how did it feel to say the E92 M3?
general thoughts and opinions on them?
thanks in advance.
Not being unhelpful but don't want to bore everyone silly with lots of repetition about my experiences and this has been done to death over the last few months. So, have a search - there were at least three long boards on the subject of the 1M I seem to remember. Quite a few guys who like me have experienced/owned both gave their views.have any of you driven one of these before? how did it feel to say the E92 M3?

I have had 3x M3's and I loved them, but for me the 1M is one of the all time greats.Without wishing to sound crass I've owned pretty much everything from Carrera GT's to every conceivable 911,Caymans,458's etc.I truly believe the 1M,pound for pound,is as good as practically anything.I owned one early in the build run (white) got out for nothing after a couple of thousand miles into an orange one.Done another 7k in that and just bought another, late, new car to store for a bit once the orange car needs a break.I get into and out of all sorts of things, but I will have a 1M for a very long time indeed...
1M a brilliant all rounder IMO and a lot of fun to drive and very very quick (standard cars putting out 360+ bhp when rolling road tested). I certainly plan to keep mine a long time, ticks all the boxes as an everyday fun car and a bit different / quirky maybe as limited numbers and cartoon looks with the wide wheel arches etc. Mixed opinions on looks but I think it looks the nuts.
A lot of mixed opinion though vs the M3 - drive both and see which you prefer. Seem to be die hard fans of both cars, M3 people that won't entertain the 1M and visa versa....

Another 1M owner here. Have owned many BMW M cars in the past and this for me is the best so far. Mine is orange but in black or white they also look superb. Now the nice weather is here I can't stop driving it. All I can say is get one, you won't regret it. A real fun car to own.

Blimey, I think you're opening a can of worms on the performance front ;-)
I guess the facts would be that just a remap will give you around 390bhp (somewhat less than the M3) and quite a torque boost over the standard 369 lb ft, which already is some way ahead of the M3. I don't know the exact figures, but I think the 1M is approx 100kg lighter than an M3 coupe.
Most M3s are DCT and of course all 1Ms are manual, so the M3 is always going to have a quicker gear-change, so I'd expect in measurements that require you to swap ratios (0-60 for example) the M3 to win out. In the mid range I suspect it would be very close indeed, possibly with the 1M having the advantage due to the higher torque and the lower weight. Once into serious 3-figure speeds I'm sure the M3 would start to pull an advantage.
Of course, this is all total conjecture on my behalf - would be great to see some actual closed track side-by-side testing - something I guess we could organise as a side show at a Vmax for example. I'd certainly be happy to participate, be very interesting I think!
I have driven E92 M3 and 1M back to back round Goodwood circuit, and as standard the M3 certainly feels stronger, but the delivery from the two is pretty different so really it's hard to compare. Unfortunately never driven my 1M back to back to a standard E92 M3... (it works for Chris H, so it might work for me ;-) ).

+1 to all the positive comments above, particularly the first reply about the 1M being one of the best all-rounders available.
I had the 1M parked next to me e46 CSL before selling it, and the two cars are approximately the same length. 1M feels wider, but I'd say the rear space is about the same (but please note I have the BMW Performance seats in mine, which have a thinner backrest, which I guess increases rear legroom).
Even though I haven't remapped mine, I find it shockingly fast and (as said above), in gear I think it would feel quicker than an e92 m3.
There was a link somewhere to some in gear acceleration times which showed just how quick it is (and was more comparable to the Nissan GT-R than many other cars you'd assume it would be compared to).
In a word, they are brilliant.

Pugsey is right though, there are pages of the stuff!
I've had both and loved both but personally and objectively I'd go for the M3. In fact I've got one on order at the moment.
I couldn't wait for the 1M, I'd had a 135i beforehand and always thought an M version would be perfect and whilst I loved it when I had it, I prefer the N/A engine of the M3. Whilst acknowledging the obvious price gap and development times etc, ultimately the M3 feels like a more resolved and cohesive vehicle. Grown up I suppose.
Depends what you're after.

To put this into some sort of further context, I currently own a pn E63 M6. I am absolutely loving it, a wonderful far that I still have alot to experience in and enjoy. I'm conscious though that there will come a time soon when I'll be looking to change and I really want to stick with a BMW, I legitimately feel like with this car I have hit the pinnacle, and there would be no way for me to upgrade as such from this point, but im always looking at what may be next, the 1M seems to offer an interesting alter alternative. ( I feel an E90/2 M3 would actually be a step backwards.)

I've done 8500 miles in mine now and really enjoy it, it's never going to be the most attractive car in the world but the performance is fantastic for everyday driving without the fuel consumption being ruinous.
Do you find it significantly different to your old 135i? (interested as I'm a 135i owner).Dave, I also came from a 135i. Short answer - yes. With totally different underpinnings the car really does handle very differently, the diff making a huge difference in my opinion. As standard it's obviously also more powerful and throttle response is definitely sharper. If you just poodle around you wouldn't really get the benefit, but if you're planning to *drive* it I think you'll really notice.
