E46 M3 power upgrade
Discussion
Well this wont be a new post, so anyway I have a stock M3, I will be looking at spending a few quid on getting more power out of it, along the lines of full exhaust re-map etc can any one advise me of someone that does this type of work. I have looked at some on the net but I would like a few recomendations and also to find out what I can get for my money. thanks for the help
Due to the highly tuned nature of the car already, you will struggle to get any more power out of it as a n/a engine.
That said, I would recommend the Evolve remap, it seems to be the only one that actually gives a power hike and the guy there knows what he's doing. I have this on mine, it transformed the car in terms of mid-range being smoother and a bit more torque in the higher gears. Don't expect miracles though.
If you're changing the back box, this is more about personal choice and achieving more noise.
Do not touch the airbox, it is so efficiently made from the factory, unless you do a full OEM CSL setup and Alpha N, you'll actually lose power.

This. Put it on a diet. Lightweight exhaust (-10 to 15kg), wheels( -2 to 3kg unsprung per axle), AP brakes (5 - 10kg unsprung), stripped interior (-15kg), remove heavy leather seats and replace with recaros (-30kg), smaller battery (-3kg). Hunting power is a losers game (unless supercharging) with these engines.Car or owner..

Playalistic is correct. I was looking to increase the power in my Z4MC (so the same engine) but going much further than the Evolve remap was prety pointless unless you go the full supercharged hog. I looked at a carbon fibre airbox and Alpha N mapping which would give about 30 bhp (so not even 10%) and that was coming out about £3500-3800 fitted. When you consider the cheapest supercharging kit is about £5k fitted and you can about 100 bhp the price/power ratio doesn't make sense. Having said that the Evolve remap is supposed to give 15 bhp and 20 lbs for £400 or so. I've not done it myself as Evolve don't do a remote map for the Z4 and it would be a 700 mile round trip for me.Thorney Motorsport have a good reputation and run a racing CSL if I recall, a good start if you are thinking of tuning your M3.
