My dad has his Z4 stored in my garage, its only done about 2k miles - and every now and then I take it out for a quick spin just to keep it ticking over.

The battery is always flat so I have to jump it off the Toyota Avensis. The problem started last weekend when I accidently connected the jump leads the wrong way around (yes I know, what a plonker). There was a bang and the leads started melting. I quickly took them back off and put them right and the car started.

Roll onto this weekend and now when jumping I get nothing, noot even the little boot light. I even bought a new megafuse but no joy. So then I bypassed the battery and connected straight to the wire terminals. Doing this I got power to the BMW, radio, lights etc but when I went to start it - it wouldnt turn over, just 'click' from the solenoid.

I dont understand this because I've always jumped the completely flat BMW battery from the Avensis without any problems.

Obviously the BMW battery is shagged, it was always going to need a new one anyway - but why won't it jump start? I'm baffled. Any ideas?

Cheers
Chris

Disconnect the battery from the Avensis and connect to the BMW with jump leads.

What sort of jumper leads are you using, nice thick cabled HD ones?

Maybe invest in an Optimate or ctek battery conditioner, they save all of this hassle and messing around with lay'd up cars.
