M3 Touring.....
Discussion
I'm sure you guys have all seen this before, but I've got to say this would be my ideal car right now (Labrador forcing some degree of sensibility)!

Bar the wheels (change back to standard), I reckon this looks awesome. If only they'd made a real one....
So question is, how much do you reckon this kind of conversion would cost? I already have an Msport Touring, you can pick up an e90 M3 for early 20's at the moment - then how much for the bespoke parts and labour costs?? And who could do it.......?
It would be quite a special, unique motor!
Cheers

Not sure about the latest version, but these guys http://www.southwaysautomotive.co.uk/SSC2/archives... have done an e46, so might be worth a call? I have no connection, just love the work!
Hi,
An Engine would be £5000 plus I'd imagine, gearbox perhaps £3-5K as it's the complex DCT (is that right?!) type unit. Looms, other sensors and bits and pieces perhaps would be required. Most likely a good bit of coding and programming work which will require specialist knowledge, fitting of interior bits to ensure all is 'M3-a-like' and then of course labour charges etc...
£15K plus I'd imagine.
You'd recoup some of that money by selling off your current engine and bits.
I'm a Touring fan and I think I'll always have one. The E30 Touring with the E34 M5 engine and drivetrain I (sort of) had got me into these. When I looked at E91's (I think thats the right model code!) I was shocked at how small the rear load area is. I have an Akita and thought about a 335d Touring, but not after seeing the size of the boot area. I have my E39 Touring and that'll probably stay regardless, and perhaps an E61 or F11 to have alongside it later. If you have a labrador, I'd suggest looking at these 3 Tourings carefully to see if there's enough room.
Cheers, Dennis!

It wasn't strictly mine, it belonged to an ex business partner, I had first dibs on it but the silly dimwit sold it without telling me. Good thing is, it went to a fantastic enthusiast who lives just a few miles from me!
I'd have access to the car, it was rapid as you'd expect and was awesome to see dropped jaws and the usual pulling up to my window after a bit of time for other drivers to say what the hell have you done to that 316i !?! leaving the badge on was great!

Completely missed opportunity from BMW, every incarnation of the 3er in touring form has looked nicer in touring form than the saloon and coupe IMO.
E91 in particular is a stunning looking car, I've had 3 so I'm biased, but I'm M3 guise just look so "right"
As stated above the C63 is the only hassle free alternative.

It's a weird one but they just don't seem to be able to compete Audi (especiall) Mercedes in the touring world.....everywhere you go in Europe it's Audi's. BMW have the four wheel drive 3 series in Europe and even then they just don't seem to compete. Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
