As you may already know, I've got a 2008 E61 M5. Looking through the paperwork yesterday trying to find the MOT, I came across a printout that I got from my local BMW dealer listing the options on my car. At the time I ignored it because I was trying to work out what sound system I had, and I didn't understand what it said. I've since worked that out, and the printout matches with what I worked out.

Anyway, looking at the printout today, it says the car has Comfort Access, but the keys I have are definitely push button and there's nowhere to fit batteries. The car definitely doesn't start without the key in the slot. Now I know the previous owner brought at least one new key from BMW. Is it possible that the car has Comfort Access, but I don't have the right keys, or is the printout wrong? Is there any way to tell without asking BMW?

I presume that if it has, then I need 2 new keys @ ~ £250 each to be able to "take advantage" of it. Completely undecided on that one, but I'd like to know either way.

Any suggestions?

The comfort access keys are also push button and the battery slot is very well hidden...if you pull out the metal key you will see a slot the size of a flat screwdriver head....that's the battery compartment. It takes a CR2032. At least it does on my car which is a 2007 X5.

I don't know if comfort access keys are the same as regular keys, I imagine they are.

There are a couple of possible reasons why comfort access won't work

Key batteries are flat
The comfort access aerial is faulty so it's not detecting the keys.

I am not sure if it's a separate operation pairing keys for comfort access than it is for the immobiliser....that might explain why it doesn't work.

There will be 3 little raised ridges on top of your door handle I the car has comfort access where you place your finger to lock and unlock the car without the key

I have comfort access and I don't have the raised ridges, just a normal looking flat handle.

No ridges on the door handle.

Investigated the key further, found the battery hatch. A couple of new batteries (although the old ones worked with the buttons?), some playing around, and lo and behold, "comfort access".

Only took me 7 months to figure that one out.
