So I started looking at Big Brake Kits for my E36 3.0 M3 as I wanted a bit more stopping power for the occasional track day and the Nurburgring. I really wanted the AP 4pot kit but at nearly £2000 it just wasnt going to happen. Then I started to look at what other companies had to offer but I really wanted to keep the brake kit looking oem and the cost down. After reading many reviews on kits and the route people had gone down before I started looking at the Porsche options. Now dont get me wrong this looks a good kit but Im not sure sticking a set of used Porsche calipers on my car was going to give me what I want.

In the end I decided a set of 840 Brembos were the order of the day, keeps the car looking oem and they will bolt straight on. Hopefully they will just give a little more bite. I have ordered up a brand new set and they should hopefully turn up in a few days. Im going to run them with yellow stuff pads and E46 M3 discs. All parts Brand New come in just under £1000.

Im still undecided on the discs, does anyone have any reccomendations of a 325-330mm disc option that I could use other than the oem M3 E46 discs?

I will put up some pics when they arrive and get them fitted

Thanks

Interesting, but curious why you didn't go with the Porsche option?

Couple of reasons, I can get the BMW calipers much cheaper through work, Porsche ones are quiet expensive and I really wanted new calipers and not secondhand. Also I would then of had the added cost of getting some adapters to fit the calipers, these are around £180ish. It all came down to cost. I did look at quiet a few Porsche options and was very close to buying them, but this way it stays all BMW.

BMW 840ci Brembo 4-pot Calipers, E46 M3 Discs and Yellow Stuff pads. Fitted and all bedded in. Braking from higher speeds is greatly improved. Got a track day at Brands Hatch tomorrow so that will be the test

Fitting a BBK won't provide any more braking force per se. The amount of braking force that can be applied is limited by the tyre. BBK usually dissipate hear better and resist brake fade much better than standard set-ups when track driving.

There are a number of companies that manufacture brake dicsc in Performance BMW magazine and they may have a disc that meets your requirements.

Along with more suitable pads, you may want to change the fluid to one that has higher boiling points and run some additional cooling to the discs. I've tried and can personally recommend Millers Racing fluid. Opie Oils sell.
