Hi chaps.

I've noticed a bit of clutch slip recently but only occasionally on my SMG e46 m3 cs its done 37k miles. Most of the gearchanges are very sharp but every so often there is definite slippage. I went to Vmax at the weekend and the car was perfect all day every change was very crisp but on the way home today it slipped quite badly from 2nd to 3rd at moderate revs.

I just wondered if a smg reset would help at all, or indeed anything else could cause this?

Or is it just time to bite the bullet and get a new clutch fitted.

Any advice or information would be much appreciated.

The car is still under warranty.

Cheers

James

Mine used to do it from time to time, as did my CSL, but I never had a new clutch. It just cleared up on it's own.

That's interesting maybe my 1k is safe then!

With mine when it does slip it is as if the clutch isn't engaging or dis engaging (not sure what the correct term is) quickly enough exactly the same as not releasing the pedal quick enough on a manual.

It never slips in gear and there is never any clutch smell.

What actually operates the clutch on the SMG system? Apologies for my ignorance!

Mine never slipped but it started to clutch shudder when taking off. After trying resets and adaptions with the BMW DIS nothing fixed it. A new clutch was the only option.

Conversely mine used to shudder, but a SMG reset I.e pull both paddles etc fixed it completely and it hasn't been an issue since.

Same with mine briefly but then it would come back.

I read something about an inpa check that can tell you whether the clutch is on its last legs or not. Unlikely at 37k mls though.
