Can't believe what it does to the E60. I thought it was fast, but that's insane!

Exactly.. That's the vid that made me doubt it being standard! Awesome.

I was lucky enough to get a passenger ride in an f10 m5 at vmax recently. Really is a bizzare type of performance and I have to say didn't do a huge amount for me. We literally smashed into the limiter at 168mph about 1/2 way down the runway then we sat there chatting away in absolute comfort with hardly any noise as if we were doing 80mph! The engine sound through the speakers was awful as well real turn off for me what on earth were they thinking. frown

I'm suprised how it pulls away from an e60 as I raced the f10 at vmax in my e46 m3 cs and it was less of a walkover albeit a complete pasting as you'd expect but as an e60 would be much quicker than my car it doesn't make any sense? I'm not 100 percent convinced its standard but probably completely wrong! smile

Cheers

James

I have to say the videos don't surprise me at all.

In the dry, my previous M3 saloon would have absolutely no chance in a straight line drag race against the F10 M5.

I'm two months into ownership now and my initial preconception that the M3 would have the legs of the M5 in the twisty bits is having to be reconsidered as I am learning about the car.

Performance delivery of the two cars is different though. The M3 was quick enough in the mid-range for day to day driving and normal overtaking but, if you wanted to really fly, it needed to be extended. With the M5, you can plant the throttle almost anywhere above 2500 revs and it will produce astounding acceleration that just builds as you go up the rev range.

A couple of weeks ago, I test drove the f10 (two days after test driving an e60). As nice as it was to be back at the wheel of an e60, the f10 has really moved the game on. The sound was a bit muted until the car was pushed but it was the same in the e60; generally, it makes a good noise. The acceleration is brutual and relentless and the torque very welcome in comparison to the e60. Steering was precise and handling excellent - the car does a very good job of making you forget its weight/size. The comfort/quality of the interior is way above that of the e60. But it's the gearbox which makes the car the complete all-rounder that the e60 isn't. Larger fuel tank/better mpg won't hurt either.

I'm not surprised the car gives the e60 a pasting. I think it really said something that Chris Harris thought it appropriate to compare the car to the GTR ...

It's funny, those of us who have experienced fast forced induction cars will know this sensation. The effortless acceleration and massive torque - I've had a tuned RS4 and a 996 TT - though obviously the F10 is on another level again.

For me, the sensation fades, pretty quickly. I'll be really interested to see what people think of these cars in a year or twos time. I would pick the scream of the GT3 or the even the E60/E63 over any turbo'd car I've driven ... though, again, admittedly I haven't yet enjoyed an F10.

Anyone interested in a 2012/12 plate 1200 mile F10 with over £8000 off list? Nice spec and Monte Carlo blue

I bought mine in March having waited 2 years for it but unfortunately broke my shoulder skiing.... Should have known better!

As a result driving has been very challenging and it is now in the hands of my local dealer Eastern BMW, Edinburgh.

I think it is the cheapest car in the UK at £69995.00 and has not been in the hands of multiple drivers like most demos.

Have a look at it on the usual sites - pistonheads...of course! Autotrader or BMW main site.

A great car!

Drop me a line if you want any info!

It was 158 through the traps (indicated just under 170) but other than that I agree :-) Would still like one though ;-)

Surely it's only a matter of time before a re-flash of the audio software can make the M5 sound like a GT3. tongue out

Hi Clive

I'm sure on Vmax app thing it said 168mph but I must be going mad!

Don't get me wrong incredibly impressive piece of kit but not my cup of tea.

Cheers

There were multiple M5s so maybe that's the confusion :-)

I picked my car up yesterday. I can't hear the sound through the speakers - I guess it is pretty subtle. BMW should hire an exhaust engineer from AMG - the E63 sounds way better. Apart from that, the car is very nice. I need to get the damn thing run in before I can really know it though.
