Spoke to a tyre company and he implied that the tyre pressure gauge/sensors only work with run flats. correct?

No. E46 M3's should not and were not supplied from new with Run Flats, think I'm correct in saying that, no M car to date has ever been supplied with run flats.

The TPS on your M3 working via the ABS sensors, there are no additional pressure sensors in the wheel yet the have a TPS system, unlike some manufacturers use.

No.

You'll find that a car that runs run flats will always have TPS, so the drvier knows that he has a flat and can drive at the required 'safe' speed, but TPS is not a unique feature to cars with run flats.
