Tyres are conti's , pressures fine but often struggle with full traction through second and occasionally third ( in the dry ) . Is this normal ??

1. How long have you had the car?
2. Will depend on the above but we are talking 500bhp, may not be used to it.

With DSC off, in S6?

I have Contis on the rear of my M6 and with DSC off it is difficult to nail 2nd without spinning them up a bit yep.

Conti sportcontact 3 were rubbish, if that's what you have on and if the car is low mileage they might have hardened. Get yourself some Michelin supersports or older PS3s, they make a huge difference.

do you have the 'M' button set to remove traction control fully?

with traction control set into MSM mode mine can find grip even in the wet, and only wheelspins in the dry when i go over bumps etc... i've actually been massivelly impressed with how well the big barge finds traction in all conditions.

if I turn the traction control fully off it will wheelspin easily in 2nd and 3rd gear... try playing with the i drive to see how different each setting is.

Thanks for the replies . What I get is dsc intervention at the top of 2nd and occasionally 3rd . DSC on , s5 .
Will try with mdm . Tyres relatively new and OE fit .
I don't remember this with my previous e60 m5 in 2007 .
As for the power , its my fourth M5 thanks .

I drive all the time now in S6....just me and the beast.

The grip is huge and traction can be an issue, but if you feed the power in, it makes for a smoother, more satisfying drive....and ultimately one which is quicker too.

EDC set to normal, or even comfort, makes a big difference too.

I detested Contis....PS2s all the way.

so its not wheel spining but the traction control is coming in a lot?.

could be slightly off geometry at the rear meaning its lacking traction, but i recon that unlikelly... am i correct the diff is electronically controlled so not a real LSD? if so it could simply be that the software is displaying whats going on more than the old M5's you had?

S6 is hard to live with at times especially in the wet but mine tends to keep power down well most of the time even with Pirelli's on the rear and Hankook's on the front!!!!

Anyway it is possible to spin the wheels in 1st, 2nd and 3rd biggrin

The traction light flashes and it feels like the power is being cut too .It has flashed at 80 in 3rd in a straight line down a slip road . Think the diff is a proper lsd (?) .
Off to try mdm , see what happens ...
