E6x SMG Question.
Discussion
OK I went for a spirited drive yesterday and along a stretch of dual carriageway wound her up and the usual traffic formed ahead so I back off the loud pedal and the revs dropped back in the current gear as the traffic cleared I dropped a gear and immediately floored it, I noticed the revs wound round to 5-6K area but it simply didn't accelerate immediately. I tried it again on another run moving through the gears then dropping and flooring at the same time and it simply had a lag between dropping into the lower gear and giving me the usual acceleration. It sort of held onto the revs for a while and then gave me gradual acceleration.
It doesn't seem clutch related as it doesn't clunk or slip in any of the forward going gears. Maybe it's not designed to be used in that way or allows engine braking? I often like to have that sweet spot on down change (5000-8250rpm) use it and then row through the forward gears as the car isn't massively torquey at low revs in the higher gears.
Is there an SMG bug or an update out there to fix issues like this? Anyone else experienced this?
thanks
Phil

Maybe you were out of the torque band for best acceleration?
The SMG/V10 combo is notorious for being very 'peaky'.
Also, these things have mega flywheel effect; come off the loud pedal and the revs just fall away.
More like the other way around - the flywheel on the V10 is tiny and it has a dual disk clutch with an intermediate plate, thus very low inertia. The SMG/V10 combo is notorious for being very 'peaky'.

Were all the driver aids turned on? If so try again with TC turned off (or MDM at the very least). It might be related to stability or traction control.
It was in M button, P500 Sport, Gear speed 5 (not the neck snapping 6) and TC was on but the EDC was in dynamic mode etc... So agressive but not THE most aggressive mode.
I will have a play and see if I can replicate it and see if other cars behave the same.

Oh and at the time of testing there was no flashing DSC on the DIS to indicate that driver aids were engaged at that time.Sounds very similar to my experience the other day which I posted about although I was upchanging from 2nd to 3rd. First thing I noticed that the revs were sitting high but the car wasn't accelerating...kind of like th TC holding it back but it wasnt. When I looked at the dash the '3' gear shift indicator light was flashing and then the harsh gear change whereby every gearchange from then onwards until the car was shut off was like being hit from behind. Definately not clutch slip although Im pretty sure its clutch/release bearing/gearbox related. Funnily enough its appears to have sorted itself out now but left with a smidge of judder when moving off in 1st and 2nd.
Going to try and book it into the stealers during the next week or two...

Possible sensor issue? Throttle Position Sensor or Clutch Position Sensor springs to mind. Still not 100% convinced the clutch isn't slipping or at least contributing to your issues.
More likely a sensor as the clutch was changed 10K miles ago. I'd be miffed if I've bought one that needs a new clutch so soon into ownership. I guess it happens as I bought the RS4 and only 4 months later after a remap it had new clutch and flywheel.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
