Afternoon All

Just sold my Z3m coupe and tuck a e36 m3 in part ex on the sale.
My insurance was £630 on the coupe. For the M3 my insurance want another £750 on top of this which i think is rediculous.

Im 26 with 3 years no claims with no good driver points, can any one recomend some cheap insurance companys ?
I will struggle to do 6000 miles in it each year as i walk to work.

Cheers

ADz

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with this. Currently drive a 330 (for reference), switching to a Z3M would be £100 cheaper whilst an E34/36/46M would be £650 more and an E39M £900 more.

As far as I can work out, must be down to stats, more M3/M5s stolen or written off than Z3Ms (obviously due to numbers but thats insurance).

Agreed on the last post ref the stats but I think when you hit 27 it'll make a big difference.

I remember checking confused.com and the premiums came down by 100's of pounds after I turned 27.

Not heard that one before. People do mention 21 and 25 though.

Certainly made a difference for me smile

On confused when I was 26 I did a quote on an e46 m3 with my correct birthday then did another as if I was 27 and the difference was significant.

For a laugh I also tried to think of the most high risk car and went for an escort rs turbo and the cheapest quote I could get was 3k! It was 3 times more than the m3 quote with half the performance just shows you it is all just about the stats.

Ignore the confused sites....actually phone the companies direct and the quotes will be significantly less imesmile Also to add BMW M cars are one of the hardest vehicles to get a decent quote on from what I found. The reason for me not getting an e46 m3 was simply the rediculous fuel and insuranc costs for what it isfrown

try sky insurance

O/T but they aren't as heavy on fuel as you might think. They are actually pretty good. wink

All down to opinion of course but personally I think 25mpg (mixed normal driving) and under 1k insurance for a 340bhp 170mph 3.2 n/a rwd //m coupe is pretty bloody good biggrin

I used Performance Direct for my E36. Good premium, but as it was a classic policy, i didnt build any NCB. Also, make sure you declare any mods or alterations to the car. They request pictures and in some cases inspect the vehicle. Cost me an extra £ 60.00 for not declaring the wheels had been changed.

Yes the z3m's are abit of a dark horse on the insurance. Its silly as i was fare more likely to smash that up than the m3 it was far more twitchy in the bends.

Im with admiral at the moment as they always come up trumps. Im 27 next month so i have frigged it so im 27.

£1303.97 on my own
£1122.00 with my girlfriend as a second driver. Stated that the car is left on the street. It isnt, its behind a locked gate in a secuire garage. If i state its kept in a garage the premium changes to .............................................. £1454 ! ! !

What a joke, apparently people who have there car in a garage have more crashes i've been told !

Simple fact is that stastistically the Z3M is owned and drvien by careful enthusiasts, but the M3 is sometimes driven by yobbos who can't drive.

It's also much more likely to be nicked.

That's why it costs so much more to insure.

I use Classic Line - £300 p/a with a 3k mile limit, although I'm 33 with more NCB and it's garaged. I think each 1k miles is £50 more so I think you could get it for around £6-700 depending on your postcode etc.

that is a quite laughable statement really, I've seen plenty of bad driving by people in both types of car - but I am very sure there are lots of other reasons - for example, the M3 has 4 seats and hence double the potential for personal injury claims if there is an accident, remember that if the other driver is not insured then your insurance company picks up the bill for these claims.

"What a joke, apparently people who have there car in a garage have more crashes i've been told !"

The most common way of stealing cars is to break into the house and find the keys. If the car is parked on the street the tea leaf does not know which house to break into to get the keys.

If your car is stolen by a thief who has taken the keys from the house you may have difficulties in claiming.

The insurance company does not care if your car suffers a few hundred pounds of vandalism as a result of being on the street. It would not be worth claiming for that damage.

That is an interesting point - but not entirely true. Surely the worst case then is if you park the car on the drive, so they can see it and know which house it belongs to, that must be the most expensive case? My car is kept in the garage and unless they have some secret M3 detector then they cannot know it is there - and yes I am paranoid and check I am not followed home wink

Good point, but probably not taken into account by insurers. From trying out different quotes, I think Admiral charge the same for street or communal garage, and the same higher price for drive or private garage.

I'm thinking about an e46 M3 convertible and have started getting some quotes and been pleasantly surprised. 33, no ncb, no points, one small claim in Aug '09 (hit a fox on a slip road) - £730 fully comp.

Interesting, currently have a clio sport, 3yrs no claims, 30yrs old, no points or convictions, garaged etc but i live in a really bad area of london and im paying £1500.

So decided to keep it at my aunts just outside of london, £800 drop.
Crazy!!

Getting quotes for an M3 now and they want £1100 if kept out of London overnight, If keeping it overnight in London im seeing quotes for £2900.

Also convert is cheaper then coupe to insure. For me anyway!

Not sure why!!
