New – Old member comes back to the M5 fold! 2010 Alpine White M5
Well my last E60 M5 was an 05 which I had for 3 years and did 130,000 miles in! I must admit I threw my toys out the pram at the announcement of a 550bhp F10. Sure sure it’s a little bit quicker and YAY it’s more economical (YAWN) Having test driven 4 of them now yes they are quicker... but I still maintain that 43 bhp more is NOT progress and still believe BMW have sold out to all the tree hugging hippies trying to reduce emissions.

Anyway rant over.... I did take a regular F10 for 4 months and did 14,000 miles init. I HAVE to say without doubt it was the best car I’ve had as daily driver, BUT for the exception of the power... So I Bought myself an Aston Martin DB9..... wonderful car, beautiful, sexy and sounds awesome... BUT not any good as a daily driver!

So when I found out that a 2010 E60 M5 had the same user interface/Software as the F10 I was delighted! Took me a while to find it, but it has everything, vented seats, active seats, HuD, individual Hi-Fi, comfort access, online portal, highbeam assist, extended leather, alacantra headliner, blinds, extended voice control, heated steering wheel, sun protection glass, USB interface, DAB, DVD player, TV, etc etc, you get the picture! 11,000 miles on her smile

Now the modding needs to start again, Supersprint headers and system to come along with all th other basic mods, scoops, pulleys, filters etc smileWill be MUCH more sensible this time.... but still aiming for the 590bhp mark smile

Will post some more piccys another time,

It’s good to be back!

Lovely motor mate. When you say same user interface as the F10 what do you mean? The iDrive system?

I drove the F10 a few weeks back and the iDrive is alot easier to use and there are less settings (EDC and Gear change) but I didn't like the HUD, it wasn't Sporty looking enough or as clear to read as the E6x one.

Yeah the iDrive. But it's much more than easier control unit, its the menu system and entire computer system, sat nav, internet, google earth, the myriad of features it has and ease of use, like the "hot buttons" above DVD slot allow to be customised... difficult to explain! it's like the E60iDrive was a ZX spectrum and the F10 system is like a modern day PC....

Of course it is! It's called moving with the times. The tech on my E61 is based on 7 yr old idrive system but it works fine. I would love the new one in mine and you have the best of both World's now! I might go and find a 10 plate E61!!! biggrin

Wow, stunning looking example Mark!

White is quite fashionable for sports cars just now yet I've only ever seen 1 other E60 M5 in white and that was actually wrapped rather than originally painted as white.

Nice options too, Individual HiFi being another rare option that I'd definitely like.

Question.
Anybody know the iDrive variations and when they came along? I know it went from the CCC DVD based version to the CIC Hard Drive version at some point but Mark clearly has a newer one again. It's not clear to me when things like the bigger screen, then higher resolution screen came in, plus any other beneficial changes? All a bit unclear and the M5Board, being USA based, doesn't really help.

It's one thing not really touched in Eddies excellent guide.

Steve.
