Z4M/S54 engine hesitation from idle
Discussion
Hello M-heads
I bought a Z4M Roadster about a week ago and I've already done 600 miles in it. I love it. It's completely my type of car...
BUT I have a little annoyance at the moment. From idle there is a real hesitation in the engine. It does not pick up cleanly - in fact, it's nearly caused me to stall a few times pulling out of junctions. After about 2000rpm the engine revs very cleanly to the limiter but it's this first 1000rpm that is a pain in the arse.
I wished to search and have a read but the search function is down at the moment and looking through the last 10 pages of threads brought up nothing.
Has anyone else had the same issue and what was the cause/fix? I don't wish to go around changing random meters and sensors that ultimately might change nothing.

Might be something simple like a throttle reset required?
The throttle system can go out of tune. Resetting it can improve throttle response and its really simple to do: turn the ignition on and wait for 10 seconds (position 2, but don't start it), then turn it off for 10 seconds, then turn it on again for 10, then start the engine.
I've done it in the past and it's made a noticeable difference.

If it goes back to the initial unresponsiveness in a week or two then it's possibly down to a dodgy throttle software version, and you'd have to take it to a dealer to see what version you have and if there's an upgrade.
There's a few people on Z4-Forum complaining about a similar issue.

Glad it's made a difference.
