I'm guessing the left brake light has failed.

One of the lights on the rear left has failed. Indicator or stop/tail. Is it LED on the back? Maybe check reverse, fog, numberplate too..

What year is the car. There is a known issue with E46 rear lights where the connector shorts due to bad earth and eventually corrodes away. See http://www.e46zone.com/forum/topic/25287-rear-ligh...

WAIT!

Don't try to replace any of the bulbs at the back of the car.Sometimes a bulb failure on the E46 can leak radiation into the car body, and this is detectable only by a particle counter such as a Geiger. You must take your car to a specialist right away.

You need to get that looked at. Asymmetric thrust could cause all sorts of handling issues.

More impressive on this shot is 505 miles on just a tiny fraction of fuel. ...must be the rocket boosters helping out on that one.
