Hi Guys,
Was slightly bored the other day so popped down to my local BMW dealer to have a look at their AUC stock.
I have a E46 M3 at present and have been thinking about changing for a little while, I posted a thread up a while ago about possibly looking at a Z4MC.
Anyway back to the point, was interested in taking a 135i out for a test drive as these have also been playing on my mind as of late. Unfortunately they didnt have any 135i's in stock so that was a no go. However, after the salesman popped off to see his manage he came back with a suggestion....
They have a 1m in stock at the moment, had a quick chat about figure's and turns out alot more reasonable than I expected.
He's getting the 1m in this week and I'm going to take a trip down there to look around the car/take it for a test drive. Its up for £42k, what kind of discount should I be aiming to achieve if I do decide to move ahead with the purchase. Will be on a PCP deal if that makes any difference, with a reasonable deposit.

I got 10% off on my E61 M5 this time last year. Held out for nearly 2 months until Sytners were desperate...
You are well and truly barking mad if you are considering paying £42k for 1M, especially an old one... Seriously, sorry to be blunt, but you need your head checked... £42k buys you a stonking E9x M3 which is a better car, or if you are like me, a good E46M3 CSL and a 1,3 or 5 series Diesel s
tter for the daily grind... £42k for a second hand 1M, what next? A £10k E60 M5?

Will an E60 M5 ever reach£10k on an AUC?You are well and truly barking mad if you are considering paying £42k for 1M, especially an old one... I just can't see any dealer retailing one at that price with a years warranty!
The £10k E60 M5 will be appearing on a forecourt near you shortly, just not a BMW one?

Fair point. As I said its still early stages at the moment, its an 11 plate on 4500miles. I'm going to have a look and go from there. I've been watching the market for 135i's for a little while now so I will continue to look out for them too. As for new shape M3's I need to do the man maths and work out the figures. I'm not in any particular rush as I have just spent a few quid on my current M and its in tip top condition.

There was a thread on used values of 1M's running on here several months ago and from memory back in February/March time with a bit of haggling people were able to get into used ones for around £36k (low mileage but probably not very high spec). In fairness 1M's do seem to be holding their money quite well but I'd take some convincing that their values have gone up in the last six months (and therefore £42k sounds very steep even if the car's mega-spec with low mileage). However, when you've got a part-ex in the equation it's the cost to change that matters; if they offer you £20k for your M3 (which I'm sure they won't) then £42k for the 1M starts to look reasonable! They have a 1m in stock at the moment, had a quick chat about figure's and turns out alot more reasonable than I expected.

That was a time when all the dealers were 'dumping' their demo's, there were 20+ used 1m's on the PH classifeds at that time, it's not the case anymore. By the look of things their residuals have recovered.
Don't think OP will get much off, but happy to be proved wrong.
And as you say if there's a px involved it's all about cost to change and if it's on a PCP it's all about month payment.

Yes and no...
My Z4MC was featured on the cover of Autocar... Sideways...
I bought it with 2k on the clock and 6 months old. Serviced ahead of schedule by BMW. Never missed a beat in 48k miles, 500+ Ring laps and lots of Euro trips and hoons. Shows the value of a good Italian tune up to get everything working as it is supposed to...E30M3SE said:

Agree there were certainly a number of 1M's about at around the turn of the year including a few brand new ones that hadn't found buyers; however, £42k today for a second-hand one still sounds expensive to me. Still, at the end of the day it's each to their own though so if the OP thinks a 1M is worth that to him it's his call! That was a time when all the dealers were 'dumping' their demo's, there were 20+ used 1m's on the PH classifeds at that time, it's not the case anymore. I'm thinking £42k isn't bad for a 1M coupe if it has the right spec, I'm selling one at £41,500 with 5000 on the clock but has pro nav, electric seats, lumbar support, Bluetooth, Active Bixenons, privacy glass, 1 owner, Valencia orange!!! If the spec is right, they are so worth it, huge fun, great handling, awesome noise and poise!!! Just buy it, you won't regret it!

No conflict of interest here then!

I was thinking more of the VO going through the grass on TG with Stig at the helm!Out of interest, I got my BSM 1M valued today for p/ex against an M3 coupe. Mine is nearly loaded save for Comfort Access and Electric seats. Had it from new since June last year, 17k miles done and new tyres needed. £33.5k.

If its a Valencia orange one registered in May with a YK11 or similar reg then it could be an ex BMW or press car. If you're happy with that then you could use that to negotiate more discount.

True some of the press ones may have had a hard life, just make sure its not the one Clarkson ragged!!! When I bought my MG SV i had the chance to buy the top gear one and it was ruined!!!! Watch out for the Autocar, Evo and Top Gear ones as they've had a hard start in life

Regardless of if you decide to buy a 1M or not, take them up on the test drive:
a) it was the most interesting BMW I drove in 2011 and is a different driving experience to an M3.. there's only 450 of them so you won't be driving another one anytime soon
b) its the closest thing in the BMW family to the 135i (manual)... so, if you end up buying one of those, the 1M will give you a good suggestion of what that will feel like (just don't press the M button maybe)
