It's that time of year again where my insurance is up for renewal frown Just wondered how it costs M3 EVO owners to insure their cars?

I am 29 (30 next month), employed, living in the south east and driving arround 5000 miles a year. I have 4-5 years no claims (need to double check)

When I first got the car 2 years ago I was quoted £800 with Endlsleigh insurance which I accepted as it was the cheapest quote I could find. Unfortunately I ran into the back of someone but rather than claim I paid the insurer the money that it cost to repair the other party involved. Still, despite not actually claiming come renewal my quote went up to £1800!

Managed to get it down to £1300 with a lot of negotiation and adding my GF to the policy which was the best I could find, it's now coming up for renewal again and Endlsleigh have quoted £1024. Which to me seems a pretty good price but as ever keen to reduce if further. Using gocompare.com if I change my birthday and bring it forward one month, nearly all the quotes drop down by £200!

Can I just not drive the car for a month and cancel insurance? Or arrange a break in cover until I'm 30? Or is that something that varies from insurer to insurer?

Additionally anyone with an e36 M3 use classic car insurance? I have seen a few adverts for M3's with owners saying they have used this. Just wondered if it was any cheaper...

Try www.footmanjames.co.uk for classic although I think once you hit 30+ it does drop even more.

1999 E36 M3 convertible.

I pay £550 for mine via Bell. Business Class 1, fully comp with legal cover.

However, that was after lots and lots of quote engineering/tinkering.

I'm 33, held a licence for 16yrs, IAM and insurance-friendly job. My mother is a named driver on the car and mileage is limited to 6000. Quite a high risk postcode but 9 yrs NCB

So lots of hoops to jump through!

I used to be with Flux for years on my Jaguar and my Camaro before that. For my M3 Evo though, oh dearie me NO! Admiral beat them by over £200, in fact I had loads of quotes better than Flux, despite me being a customer of theirs for years, being 45 years old with over 15 years no claims (never ever made a claim, but I think they stop counting around 15 years), living in a very low risk post code in the South West, low mileage use, and no business use. They wanted about £570 IIRC, Admiral did it for under £350, and when I went for a multi-car policy using the wifes motor and my Jeep, that dropped to around £280. I certainly won't be bothering with Flux ever again.
Give Admiral a try though, they were brilliant for me, and the service was excellent.

I've been with Admiral over the years, as they do a multi-car & they're usually pretty competitive. Last renewal they were easy to beat, but the M3 ended up with a company called 1st Central. Not overly impressed so far, although the couple of glitches were fixed quite quickly & the web reviews give them a caning (but the ones who review are usually the ons with the bad experience, so a pinch of salt with that!). They were much cheaper though...

Thanks for the replies. Look's like as ever it varies quite a bit! I have actually been pretty happy with Endlseigh in the few times I have had to deal with them, it's just £1024 still seems quite expensive for a 30 year old.

Wow.... think I will give them a ring! Do about 5k in mine but could easily cut it back a bit

How do I know you actually work for Flux and aren't simply trying to steal my identity? smile

My E36 smoker, 20k miles a year comp £350 a year through independent specialist broker, can get cheaper on line but why insure with someone based off shore internet only - not for me.

I got my Evo insures with Tesco for just over £400 last year. It's modified now so went with Flux at £600.
Worth using the comparison sights and call a few to get the best deal.

Try http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/

They insured me for £340-odd quid on mine, limited to 5k miles p/a. Ask for Martin, he's very helpful.
