I may do a part-exchange tomorrow of my X3 with an E60 M5 (2007 LCI) from a BMW dealer with 2 years warranty.

Apart from a test drive of an E46 M3 SMG many years ago, I have absolutely no experience with the SMG, so would be grateful for a suggested set-up of the settings that would allow me to judge if an M5 would be a suitable everyday car (well, used for long distance cruising): P500, manual, S5? Lifting the throttle on up and down-shifts?

Sounds about right, (going by M6 experience) try feathering the throttle on upshifts rather than completely lifting and you should get a smooth change and also if you have a slight delay before applying it again (this is for town/normal shifts not flat out). Try it in drive to see how it is for comparison but I don't think you'll use it for long! I'm sure it will be fine for long distance cruising, only downside will be the short range on a tank of petrol but I was managing 300ish when sitting at 80-85 thingmejigs wink

For normal driving I use setting 3 on the gearbox and P400. A very slight lift on upshifts, no need on down shifts.

P400? Whats that, lol!

Mine lives in p500 s5 for every day driving with EDC set in normal (1 light)

You should get a real feel for the car in those settings. Make sure you use all the revs if you get the opportunity as long as the road surface is dry.

Well, that was love at first sight! 2007 LCI, Silverstone II and black extended leather, Individual Audio, alcantara headlining, 71.000 km and delivered in 2 weeks with 2 years AUC warranty!

Amazing sound, loved the SMG and the sense of occasion driving it. Thanks for your help smile

Congratulations, I'm 10 months in to owning mine. It just gets better and better.

In all its the best car I've ever owned, the GT3 it lives with is more exciting but the M5 is just so good at everything.

Two weeks to wait though, bet that will be tough:-)

Regards
Fred
