M-car thefts. A fix?

My wifes colleague had her M5 stolen last week, apparently by the same method that all these other bmws have been swiped. She phoned BMW to complain and they said 'we could have sent you a gadget out that would have prevented the theft. Did you not watch Watchdog?'

Is anyone aware of a 'gadget' fix?
