M5 Missing 1200 ml Service

Would you buy one with it missing,it's not on the BMW data base as ever having been done!All other services done and on time.Car has 68k on clock and drives very well. Mondial stated they would have to get underwriters to confirm if they would agree to warranty insurance. I would expect a big premium or excess to be included,if they even agreed to it.

I think you've got a pretty simple choice - If Mondial will warranty it then no problem, if not, walk away.Anybody had first hand experience of missing 1200 ml service.
Your problem will be that you could never px it to the trade as that's always the first question they ask. You'll be limited to selling it privately and even then, only the uneducated will buy it. As for warranty, its thier call. Normally its a big fat NO, but if all other services check out and its on good nick you might get lucky, possibly at a price. Why have you chosen this one over a car with full service history?
Thanks for the advice guys. Eddie, I didn't know about the missing service till I checked the book and then rang supplying dealer. It's been outof the BMW network a while,I suspect as a result of the missing 1200ml service. The car has a new clutch and drives without fault.

Prob the right choice. As has been stated, it's not that it necessarily would be a problem, it's more the perception by the market and the dealer, which is going to make it hard to sell-on. A bit like the situation with factory-fit nav. Obviously not such an issue with am older e39 m5 as that's bought purely on condition, but different with an e60 where buyers are going to want some recourse to the main dealer network is there is a major issue.ArmaghMan said:

Ecain Eddie would beg to differ, claiming £13000 worth of warranty work on his E 61 in 24 months, but I wonder what my tame indie would have charged me for the same work?
Given that the engine seems fairly bulletproof a good well maintained non warranties car at £2000 less just seems better value. As for a commercial warranty, better to throw stones at the moon than " invest" in one of those.

Still given your huge missfortune of having all these issues on your car it doesnt change the fact that there are plenty of others out there doing more miles and yet have never had an issue.
Your experience isn't everyone else's, warranty saved you money, but would have cost me a load of money. Im also betting I have lost less in the last year on depreciation... my car is still worth within 1-2k of what I paid for it!.
Anyhow regardless... yes we fund and run our cars differently, but we still both love our cars, and that shows what a bloody great machine it is

New clutch, flywheel, bearing, sleeve and box drop/refit labour......
New steering rack and realignment of front end (braces / rods) etc.........
3 new wiring looms fitted in the tailgate and headlining..........
Vanos system replaced..........
Couple of other simple sensors replaced and a few hours of software updates..........
Im sorry but £13k of mechanical and electrical failures in 10-20k miles of driving is a huge missfortune in a low mileage car imo.
To put it in perspective, you could have practically bought my M5 for that money!
As for indy costs, we know the clutch is 1.5k, vanos 2k and steering column must be 1k max (educated guess)... cant see the rest costing 5K?

We shall agree to disagree. As said, ive had things fixed that some may just live with but thats my choice and my car is better for it. As for the clutch, it can be done for £1500 by an indy.....thats fine. But my warranty is £90 a month / £1080 a year with no excess so id have had to pay nearly a year and a half to match the clutch cost. At the end of the day the warranty works well for some and is an excess expense for others. Even if id never claimed a penny in the 2 years ive owned the car id still be glad to have the warranty. £90 a month is nothing for peace of mind.

Few errors in their ad.......not a FBMWSH as last was an Indy & no 1200 ml service. Car was reg in June 2007. Car has new clutch & discs all round, The tyres are on last 1000 miles............It's also gone up £4k!!!!!!!

I've seen some M5's experience 4-5000 of repairs in a matter of months, and also seen some require nothing. however it is more the norm to expect some hefty bills on a car like that. A car without a 1200 run in service, is worth a bit less, as it gives BMW an "out" should something fail, where as with the service there may be some goodwill forthcoming dependant on service history mileage etc.
Best advice is to buy whatever has the most complete service history you can get, maintain the service history, and just enjoy the car!! possibly biased, but for a couple of grand more than a private sale, i'd suggest buying an AUC one!!! gives you peace of mind, come back and the warranty truly is worth a fortune if the unthinkable happens!!!

According to Warranty Direct the M5 is second only to Audi's RS6 in cost and frequency warranty claims.
