Looking at the classified this morning and it strikes me that the prices have started to firm up as the prices don't seem that different from last year.

I put together an Excel sheet of price vs age and mileage when I was buying mine last October (yes sad i know wink ) and they're pretty much flat. Perhaps last year was skewed downwards due to arrival of the F10. Or are the merits of the V10 and it's value compared to current new M's now coming into play?

I've been following M6 prices for the past 9 months, they seem to fluctuate between 18 and 25k, depending which cars are on the market at any one point.

Summer was the low for prices, they've firmed up again since.

I think they're extremely sensitive to their proximity to the 60,000 mile watershead. Due to the warranty doubling in price, a higher mileage car needs to be dramatically cheaper to price in the additional GBP 1000 -1200 per year of warranty cost.

I can't help thinking some owners have shot themselves in the foot by bragging about how much they have claimed under the warranty. This may give potential new owners the impression that a warranty is essential, when that may not be the case.

I'm afraid I only see them going one way as more and more migrate past 60k.

Possibly, but that's not really demonstrated in my spreadsheet - e.g the average 'advertised' price of '05 e60's (all mileages) in Oct 2011 was £18.5k - a year later that's now £18k - and of course those same '05's are now a year older.

and FWIW - I wouldn't touch one of these without a warranty.

Yep I've seen the same, I could advertise my car for the same or possibly more money despite the extra year and extra 25k miles.

Doesn't matter though as I'm not selling anytime soon, I still love my M5.

Awesome cars, had a drive of one the other day to re familiarise myself with them, and loved it. Still making good money, even higher mileage multi owner examples are worth decent money.

Very strange tho, that this week alone i have valued 3 for Part exchange, one coming in, 2 still to decide

Reckon the V10 M5 has future classic written all over it. When we bought ours we had the choice of the e60 or new F10 and decided on the v10 because I saw it as the last of an era, it was probably going to be my last opportunity to drive a v10 as a family daily. The new M5, E63 RS6 etc all rely on some form of charging and while they take power and economy to new levels, I love the angry instantaneous response of my M5. It was pure madness by BMW to even build such a car and shows just how quickly the pressures have changed on manufacturers to produce environmentally responsible cars even if they are premier models.

Probably going to be putting mine on the market this side of Christmas as i am upping and leaving for a 612 (sorry)

I paid £22k for mine - high mileage (78k) and its now on 94k - for the last 18 months i've run it without a warranty and i replaced the clutch - thats it, its been one of my most reliable cars, and i've had a few !!

Its helps BMW replaced the engine FOC at 55k as it had a manufactures default.

If you buy right and budget right yiou wont need a warranty smile

A Scag - very nice wink - Hope your F car is cheaper to run than mine!

Hopefully FF's will depreciate like Scag's - wouldn't mind one of those as the family runabout in a few years time.

No doubt they're firming up! I just sold mine and I have a knack for doing that with cars just before the prices firm up!
