I have bought a portable dehumidifier for the garage of my M3 CS and was wondering what is the optimal relative humidity for storing in a garage :-) ?

The dial on the humidifier ranges from 80% relative humidity to 35% relative humidity (much drier air)

Thanks very much :-)

Can't go wrong at 50%.
Not too dry so that everything dries out.
Not too moist. Not sure why too moist would be a problem though.

I'm speaking with absolutely no knowledge of the humidity of where a car should be kept smile
I do know that libraries are at 50% though.

As dry as possible, I'd have thought, as in "de-humidified garage"

Here you go

THE TARGET ENVIRONMENT
The aim is to arrive at a stable environment between 40% and 60% RH independent of outside temperature. Below 60% bare metal can be left out in the open and rust/corrosion all but stops. Below 40% RH leather and wood can dry too much and will become brittle and crack.

Your not far wrong. Relative humidity and temp also come into play with the dew point were condensation may form.

One thing I would mention is that the humidistats on the dehumidifiers are not very accurate.

Thank you very much for everyone's responses ....

Set the dehumidifier RH to 50% .... Below 60% prevents bare metal corrosion .... Below 40% leather begins to crack .... :-)
