Hi all thinking of changing my z4 m coupe for a m3 e92 coupe, and was wondering if this is a worthy upgrade?
Has anyone done the same and can compare the two.

Is that not the same as going from a Z3 M Coupe to a E46 M3 Coupe :-P ?

Hello Kev,
Yes I have had a Z4MC and Z4MR and went via a E60 M5 to a M3 and over the moon with the M3! More practical with regards to the obviouse space and mpg seems about the same as the Z! Also overall running cost are about the same as well? Cannot beat a V8 for sound! Although I have got a Tubi system fitted!!!
You will not regret it and that is coming from somebody who really loves the Z4mc!

I would certainly go for it, I have a Z4MR & my brother in law has a V8 M3 & I know it's the M3 I would sooner have! The M3's engine is out of this world IMO & the 3.2 engine in the zed is nothing in comparison but i am a big V8 fan! it's just the fuel bills that would take some swallowing!

Use to own a Z4MC and have driven the V8 M3 a few times, the M3 has a lot of positives over the Z4MC. It's faster, more practical, is more composed through the bends and handles extremely well, but and its a big but, it just isn't exciting in the same way the Z is. The Z feels like a proper little sports car which needs to driven every inch of the road and is all the better for it. The V8 M3 feels like a very fast 5 series which any fool could drive rapidly across every type of road. The Z is best kept for weekend car, while the M3 could be used every day and feels pretty bland lacking any sort of steering feel in strand trim

Nice post thumbup this is how I would describe the differences too, the M3 is very composed & it does handle the road ever so well, when my bro in law drove my Z4M he said it felt like a 340bhp go kart he loved it...but I would have the M3 over mine just for the engine alone.

I wonder if the M3's V8 would squeeze into my Zed! cool

I hope they make a M Coupe with the E92 M3's high revving NA V8 :-)

I went from a Z4M Coupe, to an E92, back to a Z4M Coupe

Personally the E92 is an everyday car. The Z is a fun car. I really missed the Z. It is like a big engined gocart.

I am lucky enough to have a few cars but if I was not doing many miles it would be my favorite car to drive. Every journey is an event. While the E92 is very good, it never felt special.

Only my opinion of course :-)

This was my swap:

But I would not do it again.

The M3 is a more mature car. But for me it is not worth twice what I used to pay for the Z4MC.

can anyone tell me more about z4m coupe?

330ci ---> z4C or z4C M

big difference? Miss the practicality of 5 seats, big boot etc? Is the gain worse the sacrifice?

Also - what is the square structure in the boot of the z4 m - its not present in the z4C normal

I own a z4mr & the practicality isn't a issue as I have use of other cars, but I couldn't use a z4 as my only car no room for the dog, daughter & mrs! Boot is big enough for shopping etc, I think the structure you are talking about is the battery it was moved to the boot on the M.

The bonus imo with the zed is it feels a little more special only having 2 seats & they are a riot to drive really tail happy & they keep you on your toes I drive mine with the traction off all the time as you have a locking diff anyway so the traction control is pointless, the gearbox takes a little getting used to at first, that the only niggle for me.

Plus the zed coupe is even better than the roadster more rigid & sharper from what I've read smile

cool thanks

shame about the battery in the boot i guess - otherwise prob alright size

I only really have myself to worry about, occasionally my mum or an uncle to pick up etc - guess if there was a family gathering I would have an excuse to drive it

thoughts on likely depreciation of the z4m C over next few years? Esp if petrol goes up?

I think the prices are stabilising a little at the moment, the thing that seems to go against the car is the £470 tax which to me seems quite high for a six cylinder engine, the problem is all cars depreciate & we lose loads on cars but its what interests you I suppose.

A good Z3M coupe still fetches reasonable money so we will have to keep our fingers crossed! smile

With only having yourself to worry about & the odd passenger now & again I would recommend dipping your toe into Zed ownership, cheers.
