That's not an easy question to answer...totally depends how you drive it.

My F10 lives on the motorway so I see high 20's / low 30's mpg giving me 400+ miles on an average tank.

BUT, if you're thrashing it around town all day, I'd half that.

Thats impressive, for such a heavy and insanely powerful car to get 30's is amazing really.

To be honest that's usually late evening / cruise control / 70mph'ish wink / boring driving.

"Normal" journeys tend to dip below 30...but still high 20's.

The engine is incredible. If you demand power then it'll delivery, if you don't it'll give you economy (of sorts).

normal journeys in the high 20's is still impressive, lets face it normal journeys is about as good as it gets for the most part a majority of the time. In NE Scotland the roads are barely ever dry between Oct - March anyhow which kind of limits the potential fun a little. Love my v10 but the fuel economy is a pain, the small tank is really the only criticism I can make of the car.

I've mentioned this in posts elsewhere on PH...The E60 was out of my reach due to the fuel economy / company fuel card limitations otherwise I'd have been right there with you. That V10 is a future classic...enjoy mate! smile

I'm getting about 230-250 miles on a tank, but am stuck in very heavy traffic every morning (lasting about 1 hr 20 mins or so on average). It says that it is doing 17.2 mpg. My e60 was doing 12 mpg on the same commute.
The mpg would be a LOT better on the f10 if I used Start/Stop, but I don't want the extra wear & tear. All in all, it's an amazing car.

I'm trying to decide if I should jump from my 520d to an M5 instead of buying a used 991 s. the problem is I'm doing around 24000 miles per year so it's not going to be cheap to run and frankly I'm lazy and the thought of having to get out of my car and refuel every 250 miles puts me right off. If I can get 350 /400 from a tank I think I'm in . I take it the tank is 65 litres to fill up?

The F10 has an 80 litre tank...which helps with the range.

Checked last night, with half a tank left, the "range" claims 261 miles left.

How accurate that is is anyone's guess.

BUT like I said at the start, I live on the motorway, so view this is a 'best result' rather than the average.

I'm on 20.3 mpg - for a mix of town, making progress across country and motorway driving. Pretty much the same as my M3 saloon in a bigger and much faster car.

Usually get 280-300 miles between fill ups, but on long motorway journeys (keeping up with traffic rather than sitting at 70 mph) it can get close to 400 miles.

That's incredible....my diesel E70 X5 never see low 30's.

Hard one to answer! I got in mine the other day and the other half had been using it she had cover around 180 miles and used half a tank. (town and some dual carriageway driving) And she doesn't hang around to be fair, I then drove it for the day around 80 miles and used the rest of the fuel!!!!!

In defense of the V10...

Over the weekend gone...

SE London - Nurburg - Getting lost around the one way system there about 8 times - Nurburg - SE London, all at reasonable pace, hitting the 274km/h limiter a few times got me at 21mpg...woohoo

I do realise that the number drops off a cliff the minute the car goes into Central London where I usually average 12mpgs...

Don't know how true that is, but two insiders at the Ring mentioned that the Ring Taxi is not as robust as the old V10. Nothing mechanical going wrong, but inder-bonnet temperatures cooking the engine and gearbox oils, thus the ECUs defaulting to limp-home mode when the cars are being seriously thrashed on warmer days...scratchchin

Glad to hear the old girl is getting a good workout!

Mine is in today for new pads so I thought I'd get full value out of the existing ones at the weekend and gave it a proper cross-country thrashing. You just forget how epic the engine is until you spend a bit of time up above 6k again bow - I doubt we'll ever see an engine like the V10 again.

It is, but I think what we're seeing here is what a Jackal / Hyde car the F10 M5 is...or to be a tad anal...what a Jackal / Hyde engine the S63Tu is. It can and will drink like an alcoholic. However, with stead / long distance driving, you're pleasantly surprise how high the mpg can go.

Makes me wonder whether I should invest in a garage queen before the E60 becomes a rare beast!

Hard to find low mileage, good condition ones. I had to search quite a while to find mine. This one caught me eye though:

The F10 M5 is an astounding piece of machinery, a far more complete car than the predecessor (which is just a frantic but fun engine). F10 plays the Jekyll and Hyde character so much better than the E60 that is makes the E60 obsolete if you take the price out of the equation. Over a days test drive I managed to average 29ish mpg and in a year or so I hope to trade my 550i for one. If you've got the chance to drive one, do it!
