2008 M5 Touring E61 for £19,100 on Ebay. Bargain surely?
Discussion
Just seen this auction end for a 2008 M5 60k miles at £19,100. That must be a bargain! Private sale so bound to be less than the £23-26k dealers would charge. Gives you some protection though if anything goes wrong.

A stunning Silverstone Blue one sold here in Northern Ireland for less than 19k. It only had roughly 30000 miles and had a full dealer history. It was a 2007 car if I remember correctly.
The rarity of the touring is a quality only valued by a select few.
Personally I think they're a great car and handle suprisingly well on a track.

I think resale value takes a big step down, after the 60 000 mile watershed. After 60k, the warranty goes up by an amount which various peole have quoted as between an additional 500GBP to 2000GBP per year. So over a three year ownership period, the initial purchase price doesn't look so cheap.
If you are ok to run it without a warranty, then it looks like a bargain.

It's very, very hard to sell even superb examples of E61s/E60s in the current climate, with prices reflecting this.
Mind you, I wouldn't touch the car in question when the likes of Eddie's stunning E61 is up for grabs for a few grand more.....what a buy that will be for somebody!
Resale worries me more and more, so next time I may well explore contract hire or even a PCP route.
The F10 M5 is haemorrhaging money at the moment
eg I know of one that went privately (good spec, good nick, year old, 7500 miles)for 49K!!!

Ha! Where do I send your sales fees? Mind you, I wouldn't touch the car in question when the likes of Eddie's stunning E61 is up for grabs for a few grand more.....what a buy that will be for somebody!

Private sellers have particular problems.....£50-£60K is a lot for a private purchase and would give most punters hebeegeeebeeees!
So £49K is really not that surprising.
By the way, I only know this because he's a good friend.....this was the only offer in 5 months!!!
I would have had it off him, just did not want the colour (great colour, but the same as my current one!)

A car advertised at £55k could be had for £49k if you press the dealers buttons.
Yes of course at a dealer but from what I gather the 49k car was a private sale. I drove one at a Sytners and a few days later it was sold so it's not as if they're standing around at dealer for months. Bloody good cars for the 40-50k bracket.

This & the mpg figures are the reason why they are cheap(ish).

Someone made a comment, maybe in the buyers guide, that you shouldn't be thinking (worrying?) about costs when looking to buy an M5, but being Scottish its hard for me to ignore :-). They are classic cars, but my worry is that in the future they will simply become too uneconomical to keep going and rather than hit a floor, say £10k, they will simply keep depreciating to very little. You can't say that about the simpler MGs, Triumphs, BMWs, etc made in the 70s and 80s.
